During their fall migrations, BWT drakes are in eclipse plumage, so they look very much like hens and don't have the distinct white crescent and powder-blue face and neck that they have with their breeding plumage. As we all know, Blue-wings are one of the earliest migrants; they also migrate ...

I've been doing great, Crow, thanks for asking. The last six months have been a whirl-wind though - got married, defended my dissertation, accepted a job in VA, moved, and am now up to my ears in teaching, research, etc. but am loving every minute of it. Oh, and I got a yellow lab puppy somewhere in ...

Thanks . . .

Hi all,

I haven't posted on here in a while but continue to be a regular visitor (I moved from MS to VA this summer). I evidently woke up on the "wrong side of the bed" this morning and have been in a foul mood all morning(thanks in part to a disobedient lab puppy who ran out in the road in front ...

Thank You to N.A. Fire Department.

Very glad to hear she's ok, and very sorry to hear about the loss of the pets and the house. We're thinking of you.

Firefighters and police officers are amazing folks.

Duck Report - Christmas Morning

Hey Magnum,

Sounds like you had a decent hunt - too bad all 500 didn't trickle back in!

I'm back in Oxford for the rest of the week trying to get some things taken care of. If you're game for a hunt later in the week (Friday?), give me a call - I may be able to pry myself away from my desk for a ...

Drew a permit and need some advice

Hey Folks - I was lucky enough to have my name drawn for a permit at Noxubee for opening morning. Because of some other commitments that I've been bogged down with, I've not had a chance to scout the area, and really know very little about it.

I know, I know . . .I've not done my homework, but ...

BW - my dad is the same way, and he gets very frustrated by not being able to hear the songs of many birds. His hearing impairment is probably the result of a number of things, age being one, but he used to shoot rifles and shotguns all the time growing up, and never used any hearing protection ...

Unkljohn,

Please pass along to your friends that they sure has a wonderful place, and terrific food. As I mentioned, it my fiancee's and my favorite restaurant. I wish we could go more often, but on a graduate student salary, we save it for special occasions.

GC: small world. I don't know many of the folks in the "greater metropolitan area" of Yocona because I've only lived there for a few years. However, I rent from Bobby Carnell and he and his wife know just about everyone in the area. Great folks, and I'll be sad when I finish this degree and move on ...

Yocona, MS (pronounced yok-na or yoc-ni by many/most) is a wonderful little community south east of Oxford. I'm a transplant from Virginia here in MS, so I can't speak of Yocona in quite the same depth or detail as the folks who were born and grew up there, but the community is composed of some ...

Was up before dawn this morning and heard some snow geese flying over the house (the first I've heard this year). I've seen those rascals at both ends of their range (on their breeding grounds and here on the wintering grounds), and I always look foward to hearing them as the migrate. When I heard ...

Sorry to hear about the accident, and I'm sure glad your mom's all right. We're all thinking of you. If you need anything, give me a hollar in Oxford.
