Anatidae,

Feel free to share the gumbo recipe. It's been published several times before. No secrets here.

Thank you so much for your kind words about my Father and my family. He will be sorely missed. When we scatter his ashes in the swamp in a few weeks, he will eternally be a part of the ...

Thank you

Many thanks to all of you who replied about the passing of my father. My brother and I were deeply moved.

Tom

PS: I wrote this and read it at my Dad's funeral. I thought it summed up my feelings and would like to share it here with you.

WHAT A YEAR!!!

Hawkeye,

Did you kill that in Jackson... West Capital Street... near I-220. Those ducks might taste great after eating all of the popcorn fed to them by schoolkids. Just make sure you don't get caught by the zookeepers.

My father was deer hunting one day back in the 1950's and he and a buddy shot ...

Praise for BGB

I love the sound that my Bourbon and Water call makes, but the reed sticks like hot grits on Al Green. I sent an email to the company and they said that for $40 they would fix it. No thanks. For what the call costs, they should fix that problem for free. Just my opinion.

How many years experience?

25 years. However, some years (like this one) felt more like birdwatching than duck hunting.

I thought I was going to die...

I've never had "the Stones" play at my private parties. I have however had episodes of gout. The two are similar in that acute gout flare ups are much like a kidney stone in your joints. Mine was in the right big toe. I was hunting on the river and seriously contemplated shooting my toe off. Instead ...

Learning to call

Nora Ephron once said, "To write is to write is to write..."

To paraphrase and modify, "To call is to call is to call..."

Nothing replaces practice.

Number of calls needed/and best

I use four calls and a whistle. Each one has a very different sound. The Redlegs is used almost exclusively for what I call the "Reelfoot Highball." It has a great high squeal. The RNT is my low call and I use it for soft, close-in quacks. The DR85 (slightly modified) is my utility player and gets ...

In Mississippi, riparian rights of landowners extend to the thalweg of the channel (it's deepest part). In other words your property line extends all the way to the middle of the stream (if indeed, that is where the thalweg lies). If your property is adjacent to a public waterway, this still applies ...

Unless the law has been repealed or amended, it reads that the taking of game and fish is permissible between the center of the channel and the mean high water mark. The mean high water mark and flood waters are not one in the same. The mean high water mark is defined by the COE as the long term ...
