I'd like to know as well. I haven't tried to secure mine yet, but have been wanting to.

I'm using a NETGEAR wireless router if that needs to be known.

I'm sure teul knows. He was unit before he took a job where he could shoot doves from his office window. I have a linksys and if I type in the ip address it opens up the router options page. I can set all types of security levels.

I would like to know how to secure it as well. Someone mentioned that it may slow the internet down a bit :? . I don't see how securing it would slow it down...?

well I logged into my wireless route and setup the WEP security. Just a heads up, I had to disconnect the laptop from the network for the new settings to stay. Not sure if this is the case on other brands, but it is the case for my netgear router.

Word to the wise. That WEP can be a bugger to copy. I save mine on a word document for easy access if I use another wireless device (such as the iPhone I'm using to type this :) ) and I think u can can copy and paste from the word doc, I think. :P

I would suggest not only password protecting your network but also only allow your wireless devices to connect. You can set up your wireless router to do this via the setup from the browser. You add the MAC addresses from the devices that you want to be able to connect to network to a list in the setup. I did it on my Linksys. It is crazy the number of people that are broadcasting completely unsecure.

Secured mine through my router using 128 bit encryption

just find out what you gateway is on the router if you have a linksys or a netgear. Go to your internet browser and type in the address exp 192.168.1.254 is a common one. Default usernames and passwords for linksys is admin admin netgear is admin password go to the wireless settings and set a form of encryption. WEP and WPA is common. Another guy posted "only let your devices connect." That is a good thing too. You have to do MAC address filtering to do that usually. Be aware that if you have a desktop now on the wireless and buy a laptop later you will have to add the laptop's mac to be able to connect. Other than that, run cables defeating the wireless :) Maybe this helps if you havent figured it out already I havent been on here in a week or so, so I dont know how long this has been posted.
