2 yrs old is when you can have your dog OFA'd. This is to certify that your dogs hips are clear of displasia. You should wait until then.

At a minimum, the dog should be ofa'd and cerf'd, and that means 2 years old for ofa. Anyone breeding a dog before 2 & their health clearneces, has no business breeding a dog. travis

Yeah... their is one doctor in memphis that does it at the emergency vet office on summer ave. Dr Miller. He only is there a couple days a week. Only took bout 15 minutes, and he gives you the slip right there, and you send it in. Dr Blackburn in memphis did rowdys ofas last year. Dr Blackburn is an excellent vet, is very knowledgable about breeding issues, can do ai's, the whole 9 yards. I started rowdy with him when I decided to get his clearneces and such, but liked his office so much, I now take everything there. Kinda far for you obviously, but memphis is closer than b-ham for the cerf. travis

Got some colored beads for the kennel, and a lil smoking jacket for rowdy already... he'll become a MAN soon nuff.

Heck, if he throws stuff the way his daddy does, he'll probably soon be getting more than me. travis

When I worked at the vet (3 diffrent ones) in my younger days, we would shoot Xrays for OFA cert and send them off. Is this not still done?

Yes, OFA certifications are done by most vets. I think the previous post was directed to eye certifications. Dr. Miller is the only vet in this entire area qualified to do the Exam. He covers the whole state and the Memphis area. You can call 866.838.4282 and find out where he will be during the month. You make reservations to see him. The process takes 15 minutes. You will know then if your dog has any possible genetic defects of the eye. Your certification will come in the mail later. Most reputable breeders will require OFA and eye certification by the stud dog.

I see said the blind man, to his deaf daughter!!

There was a eye vet that comes to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Jackson when I worked there. He comes in like once a month on a saturday. I can find out if you would like.
