3'' VS 3 1/2''

Postby Side Kick » Wed Jun 23, 2010 8:41 pm

What's the difference between the two (other than 1/2'')? Is it really worth the extra money to need to extra 1/2''? I usually shoot Kent 3 1/2'' 1 9/16 oz. #2.......I was thinking about changing to 3'' 1 1/4 oz. #2....Price difference is about $30-50 a case so I was thinking I might save a little, but don't want to have more cripples or anything like that.

3 1/2" kicks more.

I shoot quality 3" shells. Never have problems with cripples. Have you patterned the gun with a few chokes to see what it likes best?
Never assume.

I will pay 50 for an extra 1/2 inch

Seriously, I dont shoot anything but 3 inch shells at anything and it seems to be enough with well placed shots. Now if I could just place more shots well.

9 times outta 10 from what I have seen a 3 inch shell patterns better than a 3.5. Good enough that I only shoot 3 inch shells now.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

I use 3"- just haven't seen the benefit vs recoil of the 3 1/2. I have gone down in shot size and up in velocity- seems to work for me

Sort of like everything else I reckon. Hunters go through cycles be they deer or duck hunters where when they are young they must shoot either the larget caliber and/or the larget shell they can get their hands on. They grow older and move toward the other end of the spectrum. I don't shoot 3 1/2 or 7 mag anymore.

Seymore is right. All the old times shot 20 and 16 Guage 2 3/4 shells for years and years. I know it was lead then and that makes a big difference, but My grandad shot low brass on top of that..

If you shoot 3-1/2" shells you are tougher than me. There isn't enough Aleve in the store for me to shoot them.
First 3 shots with 3.5" shells and my head is killing me. 3" shells are plenty big enough. Save the money and down size.

I don't shoot 3 1/2" shells unless it's some that were given to me. This past year the majority of my ducks were killed with 2 3/4" steel. I was shooting the 2 3/4" shells at the fish ponds and outkilling everybody else with me.

It aint the number of pellet you throw, it where you throw them that counts..

I used to shoot 3 1/2's. I switched to 3" and realize I shoot a whole lot better now that I'm not getting my brains rattled each shot. I do shoot 3 1/2's when jumping snows though. More pellets the better for that. Also do for turkeys. But that's a stationary target where the denser the pattern the better (and only 1 shot).
