Then the park rangers should be called. Let them take care of it.

In order for this to happen it must be in the City's ordinance and in Clinton's case it is. They can and do patrol between the city limit signs on both ends of the trace. These signs were just recently enlarged just for these purposes. Not sure about other City's in which the Trace runs thru, but it Clinton's case they can and do! All the requirements are they must be marked and it must be in the City's ordinance. Just like City officials patroling a state highway running thru their town. Some do and some don't.

This is covered under the Assmilative Crimes Act. This act passed by Congress provides that the Federal, State, and local authorities can have conurrent jurisdiction in certain areas. The Trace is one of those areas. One can be prosecuted for the same criminal act and not run foul of the Double Jeopardy clause. The Double Jeopardy clause one applies to one entity so one could conceivably be prosecuted by both the Federal, State, and Local authorities for the same offence.

Wow, they have gone up. I got a ticket on the trace when I was in college doing 64 and it was only $75 I was told if I was doing 65 or better I would have had to go to Federal court. Knock on wood that is the only ticket I've ever gotten and I've been driving 28 years.

They can run radar, they can write tickets, they can collect ALL the revenue they want whether legal or not. UNTIL someone fights it and finds out for sure!

I travel the trace twice a day everyday of the week and have yet to see a city limit sign anywhere and I live in Clinton. I also can tell you that Clinton does patrol and radar it as well. Also I know the mayor had put a stop to it due to a family member getting wrote a ticket for speeding but has since allowed them to patrol. There is also some hear say of ridgeland and clinton pd popping some nice deer off it at night. I know I have witnessed ridgland PD cars all the way in Clinton area stopped with light up and going.
