Bear Attack in Bolivar County - Picture Added

Postby Deltaquack » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:39 am

I was hunting a food plot yesterday afternoon in a 12ft or so 2man ladder stand. Three does came out real skiddishly. They ran around stomping and didn't really eat much and then went on back in the woods. About 20 minutes later I heard something storming through the brush to my left and saw black and thought a heard of hogs were coming on in......well it was a fairly big black bear. He jogged across the food plot and went over to a stump, then meandered over to some cane about 125 yds in front of me. I thought he was gone and heard a ruckus and saw him rolling a log into the food plot. He looked under it for a few seconds and then started walking a b-line towards me. He stopped and looked into the woods where the does had just been and then kept on coming. He stopped about 5 yards to my left and then came over to the ladder stand and sat down at the foot of the ladder looking away and to my right. Then all of a sudden he stood up, put his front paws on the rungs of the ladder and looked dead at me. I didn't know whether to be still or make a lot of noise and movement. He sat back down for a minute and then stood up again. He actually tried to put his back paws on the bottom rung like he was going to climb it but I stuck my hand out the burlap covering and started waving and moving and he turned and ran into the woods across the foodplot from me. I took two pictures with my phone but have no idea how to get them onto my computer. That was my first ever contact in the woods with a bear.......it was thrilling and scary at the same time.

I would either be in jail or borrowing a back hoe there is no way I would let one turn my stand over with me in it

I cocked my encore when he starting sticking his paws up trying to climb b/c he was only 4-5 ft away. How do you get picks from a Motorola Razor to my computer? I'll put them on here if you tell me how.

Several years ago I walked up on ablack bear while hunting. I was less than 5yds from him when I crested the ridge. He turned to me and sniffed then stood up and sniffed some more. I didn't move suddenly so I guessed he thought I was no threat to him and he went back to feeding. I eased out backing out. I have seen lots of black bears while hunting behind the levee.

I believe it, bears are kind of like coons, very curious and they are very playful a lot of times. I would have been scared though. Even though I spent a summer in Alaska fishing next to black bears and coastal brown bears, I would still have felt uneasy.

All it took was a wave of the hand and he left?

Man, these bears are such sissies. Where are the ravenous man-eaters we've been hearing about?

Did you notice a collar on it?
