No Weapon Signs
I noticed there are “No Weapons” signs posted at our rest areas and welcome centers, why is this? Who authorized and paid for them to be placed? We just fought and won to prevent this type of restrictions.

There are "No Weapon" signs just about everywhere I go now these days.

Even The Courthouse (gym) in Brandon put one up back when the OC stuff started. I told them there was no way they could keep me from carrying these guns in there.

Re: No Weapon Signs
Question is who put them there? State fought to pass so you could carry. Rest area is state funded. So who authorized them being put up?
Re: No Weapon Signs
I think you have the right to ask people not to bring in weapons to your place of business or property or whatever and it has to be honored...as I understand it. I know basically at the hospital we are posted and if someone comes in with a weapon and don't want to take the weapon out or leave all together we call the police and they are handled by law enforcement (obviously this is becoming as issues posted and enforced due to the open carry stuff). I think refusal to honor such postings can result in disturbance type charges if necessary...
I might be totally wrong, but I know it was discussed during a hospital meeting; as we posted after the carry laws, and and I was awake for at least part of it... at least I know I heard some of that in it...

Re: No Weapon Signs
The police chief here in Cleveland (who I like very much, except for this one issue) went around to all the civic clubs and was all over the newspaper telling business owners that they need to post these signs at their business. Just about every business in Cleveland has them up now. It was just a knee jerk reaction to the open carry law. I personally have not witnessed one single person openly carrying a firearm since this was passed.
I was sitting in a Rotary Club meeting when the Chief came and spoke. He had all the ladies and the old-timers in there believing that people were going to be walking all over town with shotguns on their shoulders.

Re: No Weapon Signs
Legally carry concealed and they will never know. When you foil a robbery attempt in their business they will owe you and reconsider. Unless I am about to go through a metal detector I ignore them.

Re: No Weapon Signs
Why don't they just put up signs saying " no open carry " or something to that effect? There were obviously no problems with concealed carry prior to this.
If I had a store front, I would say no open carry but permit holders welcome.

Ya'll take the time to go read this..
http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/mississippi.pdf
It tells you about signs and schools and everything else.. It also includes the AG's opinions.. Keep in mind that alot of these signs are as mentioned above "knee jerk" reactions based on the OC law that never really was an OC law anyway.. The people putting up the signs and most law enforcement officials don't really understand the law...
Also keep in mind that as of today we have NO precedent set for any of these laws.. So I encourage you to use mature judgment when you carry unless you want to be the "test case" to set precedent. If you are chosen as the test case you will need deep pockets and a lot of vacation time..
With that being said.. I carry everywhere I go.. But you will not be able to tell if I have a gun on me or not.. If I have to pull that gun it is because my life or the life of a family member is in eminent danger... If I just so happen to be in a place that doesn't want me to carry a gun when that happens, I will deal with those situations afterwards...

Re: No Weapon Signs
All good points but my question here is, Who authorized the signs to be placed at our Rest Areas and Who put them there? These are state funded facilities which whom our state passed the law in the first place to allow open carry?
