I understand the statements about it going to far but what if the guy actually felt threatened and honestly thought he was defending himself. People's body language in situations says a lot. Also yes I know a judge is not going to believe that.

I wouldn't want to be betting my life and future on someone's "body language" shown (term used lightly as it would be dark) during a verbal argument over a duck hole you then turned physical as a defense to a murder charge. Can you imagine how juvenile all of this would sound to a jury of non-duck hunting peers?

I've been hunting public land all my life and the last 7 years have concentrated my efforts in NEA. The guys I hunt with are as nice and mild mannered as they come but this weekend I got to witness one of them reach his breaking point. Had a crew of guys come into the hole we were hunting late (almost shooting time) and get real mouthy when we let them know we had enough people to hide already and they needed to keep moving along. The ducks are plentiful but we had a group of eleven guys already and another ten just seemed overkill. So anyways, the main guy in the group coming in late claims it's his hole blah, blah, blah, and starts calling us mf'ers and so forth when out of nowhere he catches a sculling paddle right in his ear. He got hit so hard I thought his duck dynasty beard was going to come off. Needless to say his crew cowered down pretty quick and they left and there is no telling how many stitches he needed but the paddle was pretty damn bloody. I mean there is no sense in this kind of thing ever coming to a head, so just be respectful and remember that there is always someone bigger and badder than you out there. If they aren't bigger and badder, they might just have a boat paddle...

Alright at this point I set up straight in my chair! Guys I have gotten pretty hot headed in the woods but never have hit someone with a paddle....NOT SAYING I DIDN'T WANT TO! Just never have.....The question I want to ask is how many of yall have ever came into contact with someone who has bristled up at you over a damn duck?

Trip, we hunt public land in Arkansas as well. Some a-hole unhitched my trailer at the Winchester ramp and pushed it off the ramp into the channel. It took us 3hrs. to get it fished out not to mention having to go swimming in 30 degree weather. Not fun. A friend of mine had his decoys, boat motor and gas tank stolen on his slough boat Thursday at Upper Reyno.
I thought Mississippi public hunting was bad but it ain't got nothing on Arkansas. It's freakin nuts!

Havent been over to the cutoff before have you? Those guys can be just as bad as anyone in AR im sure on the water. No problems on land but in the water they will do everything to keep anyone off and away if need be to their prize hole. We have been rained on by shots, decoys shot on the water in front of us, boats driven right through decoys tearing everything up and so on. Heck we are even from MS! not an OOSER. It only seems to get worst and worst every year down there.

I have about one of the shortest tempers when it comes to BS you'll meet but if I went off hitting folks with a blunt object every time I was cussed at or offended, I would of been in jail a long time ago. I don't think too many folks will be backing him on his actions from what i've read. Granted I wasn't there but from everything that's been provided to us on here, he (your friend) escalated the situation in a big kind of way. Your friend turned things physical and took the cowardly approach by blindsiding him with a blunt object and not even squaring off with him.

"Kind of like" and reality are two very different things in this case. I would be willing to bet the Judge would not think being called a name warrants being split down the side of his skull with a boat paddle.

Gotta agree with Chevy. Judge will turn your friend every way but loose if this catches up with him.

Sounds to me the name caller learned a valuable life lesson and I'm sure he won't make that mistake again. Nuff said!!!!

something more has to be with this story? They show up calling you all names bc you are where they wanted to be? Which I can understand and see happening with a disbute.

So he calls a name and someone swings a boat paddle and connects? Whats to say one of them didnt grab a pistol or gun and unload? I understand he got what he had coming for that, but calling someone a name and getting a boat paddle against the head? Just doesnt seem right regardless.

Personally, I would delete all this and act like it never happened. If seriously injured something really big could come of this and you get put into the middle of it.
