Looking to buy a mud motor

Yamaha built the Kholer engine on my mudbuddy.

That's the motor I was looking at. It's a 25hp. Not sure if it's enough to push the boat good.

MB's motor chart shows they use the Kohler on their 27 and mini 27 SD's.

Re: enough power to push your boat - depends on the total load you want to carry. The 27 (or comparable model in another brand) might be the perfect weight for your boat and might not be as hard on the hull as a heavier motor. I don't know if there's an appreciable amount of difference (weight-wise) in a 27 and a 35......you can't tell anything about specs from MB's website.

Nah it did real good actually. Son B will fly with one person. Tear that hill up find another used one cheap one is the fellas saying. I wounded put much more in it. Were he hunts it never gets deeper than the knee so it's all good.

We have a shed full of duck hunting crap, too..........and I haven't used most of it in the last 12-13 years. One of my Dad's favorite sayings later in his life was, "I came here with nothing.....and it appears I'll be leaving with most of it."

You can't kill ducks without 'opportunity'. Therefore.......

Dry fields: mo equipment but we got tired of waiting for the ducks to come to us - 'figured by the grace of God we'd just go to them.

Mud rigs: again - can't get to them with what you used to 10 years ago?.......get something that WILL. Mo opportunity.

I'm entertained by how many folks think it's about 'the stuff'.......the more, the better, the badder, the faster.......he who has mo stuff looks mo like a duck hunter, right?.........whether you know what to do with it or not is another matter. But I DO understand........we all want to 'look good', right?

Really, I'd just as soon somebody thinks I don't know which end of a duck call to blow into.

There's more good advice on MM's in this one thread than I've seen anywhere in a looong time. DSG, if maneuvering around in skinny water / mud picking up decoys is the goal, you have to change hulls. Even with a MM on the back, trying to scoot around with those ribs on that hull will be mighty tough. A pirogue or creek boat for picking up may be a way cheaper option.

If you're set on a mud rig, do research on round chine vs. tapered chine vs. square chine. Round are slower than square, but round chines let you corner quick. I hunt rivers and creeks. The maneuverability is a priority.

Meet up with some MM owners and take some rides. I have a ProDrive 36 on a Gator Trax. If you make it over to AL, you are welcome to take a test ride. PD is a vertical engine. It drives more like an outboard because the weight is off the back of the transom. GTRs and MBs are horizontal engines. Those balance on the transom. Pushing the handle down to lift the motor over logs, etc. is a lot easier with the horizontals.

Last thing, these things can be money pits if you get caught up in the pursuit of "speed". Want to go fast? Buy a Donzi.
