I am in the market for a new push mower. I have always had Craftsman mowers. I am retiring my 15yr old craftsman and am looking for a new one.
My yard is small. I have never had a propelled mower but am considering one with this purchase. I do have some inclines in my yard.
What brands do you recommend and do you recommend front or rear wheel drive.
Thanks in advance.

smart drive is nice ...you set the speed, so you don't have to adjust your gate to meet the mower's gear speed.miket wrote:Honda,Honda,Honda.........I've owned the same one for 9 years one pull start every time.
if you normally bag clippings you'll want rear wheel drive, as the front wheels tend to get lighter as the bag fills in the rear.
Experience is a freakin' awesome teacher...

I asked the same question here this summer. Followed the majority and bought the Honda. Love it!

Push mowers... I don't recommend them.
I have always been pleased with Honda small engines.

Look for a Honda or John Deere that has the front swivel wheels

Re: Push mower recommendations
Have had a Honda rear drive for the last two mowing seasons after years of having a push mowers. Love it and will never go back. Did a lot of research and the Honda's are better because there the last ones that have metal gears. Don't remember what the speed control is called but it works by pushing a lever down. The more you push it down the faster you go. I like that a lot better than my buddy's old Honda that just uses a lever. Mine kills the engine while his will declutch and idle with his hands off it. I recommend Honda.

Note to self. Ducksouth members have money. Ask one for a loan.
If your yard is small, have you looked at MTD? I had one of their push mowers that worked great for 8 years. Replaced it with another one only because I had to. (I hate a thief, but that is another thread) They aren't expensive, they are easy to service and operate, and they do the job very well.
