Clearing of Cypress Brake

I have a farm south of Tchula with a large Cypress Brake on it. There are several large holes that have grown up with weeds and buckbrush from the water level being lowered about 10 years ago to get timber out of the parts that we do not own. I have since risen the level of the culverts and restored the water levels but the vegetation is still in the holes.

First question - What chemicals would be best to spray the holes and what time of year. I have an industrial size sprayer that i can fit in a boat.

2nd question - The trees are close together and I need to cut a path about 10 feet wide by 75 yards long for easy access to the best hole. These are large trees and the swamp has a floating bottom that cannot be walked. Does anyone know anyone that does this kind of work?

This brake used to hold ducks before they drew the water down to rape the trees and the vegetation grew up in the holes. Luckily most of the brake is still in tact.

You need to know what the vegetation is before anyone can give a recommendation as to what to kill it with. Do you know what is growing in there? Different types of aquatic weeds require different chemicals. My suggestion to you is to send a pm to DanP on here and get it done up right the first time (he owns Aquatic Restoration Services). He knows his stuff when it comes to aquatic plants and how to kill them.

He will also more than likely be able to put you in contact with someone that can help you on the second question as well.

^^ definitely need to know what kind of weed before selecting a herbicide. In that situation you need to start spraying at green up and keep spraying throughout the growing season(within label restrictions) in order to kill the entire root system in the floating mat which allows the mat to break apart during the winter.
