Anybody use propane tankless water heaters for camp? Pros and cons vs standard water heater.

Go with Rhinai over Rheem for tankless. Southern pipe and supply off 49 or Galatin can get you fixed up. Tell them TJ sent you.

I have two in my house... endless hot water. I also have a small one in my cabin at camp, I think that's what you asked. I can't remember the exact flow but it does the job for showers, washing dishes, etc. It wasn't much either, less than $200 if I recall.
Runs on 220v, not propane and will scald you. I'm sure they make the same size for propane.

Let me know if you need more info, I'll write down the make and model next time I'm down there turkey hunting.

You won't be getting a Rinnai Tankless heater for remotely close to $200 in any size. You are referring to a "point of use" heater. I had one in a kitchen at my last house. They use a ton of electricity and aren't comparable to a tankless whole house water heater. I've had Rheem and Rinnai between my last house and my new one. I had Rinnai at my cabin too. I couldn't tell a lot of difference in the two.......but was told by several plumbers and such that Rinnai's workmanship was superior. I've had natural gas and propane and can tell you they don't use much at all. My natural gas bill during the summer with 3 Rinnai 98E 9.8 gallon per minute units is only $25-30 a month. It was only $18 one month. I did overkill by using 3 instead of 2........but had a kitchen and daughter's room on one end of the house which needed 1 and 2 boys rooms, the laundry room, and Jacuzzi tub and large shower all on the other end.

got a standard propane water heater that was pulled out of my house when I was buying it. Inspector found rust on the top so he suggested that it be replaced. I had the owner replace it on his dime just in case. I will make you a deal on it.

Make sure to put it in a central part of the house. Mine was not and it takes a while to get to kitchen and our shower. On a side note....you never run outa hot water.

That's why i put 3 in. I put the exterior units into a metal brick box. They detect the exterior temperature and you can hear them turn on for a minute every so often when it's below freezing so that they don't freeze/bust. We just turn the shower on and then get undressed and get in instead of turn on and get in. Once you get in the habit of doing that you never notice a difference.

I have a brand new Rinnai propane tankless heater still in the box in climate controlled storage if you are interested. i bought it when insurance replaced my cabin due to the flood. I never built a new cabin though so it's sitting in storage.

Don't install it in the attic...

I have two in my attic. As long as your model heats on and off and as long as pipes are wrapped it should be fine in attic.

Depends on how many bathrooms you have on one and things like washing machine, sinks, etc. Look up your shower head models...they'll usually tell you how many gpm of water they use. A lot of shower heads are in the 2-2.5 gpm range. So, a 9.5 or 9.8 is plenty big for most houses, but if there's a chance that washing machine, two shower heads, and kitchen sink are all going at once...you'd get mad if you were in the shower. So, if there's a way to run two 7.5's or 8.5's or something like that to separate things, you will be certain you'll never have a issue. You have to take in consideration the distance from the heater as well. That's why a lot of people go with two unless you have one centralized and not that many shower heads and such. I went with Commercial 9.8 exterior Rinnai's b/c i found them for $600 each when a store was liquidating it's inventory and going out of business.

I've had and Rinnai on an exterior wall for about 7 yrs now. I used to have fluctuation in water temp when the thermostat was set at 120. Now the kids are bigger and we have bumped it to 130 and the fluctuation have gone away. They are awesome. I need a battery back up for the pilot lite because when the power goes off we have no hot water
