OL Buck Strikes

Postby DUCKAHOLIC » Mon Apr 07, 2014 6:56 am

Saturday mornin Buck and I were blessed. We were hunting a place that I thought had only one bird because thats all we have heard since youth weekend. We are not blessed with an over abundance of turkeys or places to hunt. Thank goodness for neighbors who do not turkey hunt. We got in the woods at 545 and the boss gobbler started hammering at 6. He gobbled his brains out till 7 with as many as 5 gobbles in a row. As our luck would have it he was roosted on a creek and when he left the limb he pitched across the creek...never made another sound. As ol dad was feeling beat again, Buck said lets go hunt the one behind us. Behind us?? Buck said yeah there is one that gobbled about three times behind us....ol dad never heard him. So we move to where buck thought he was and I clucked one time and he hammers about 70 yards off in the hardwoods. We set up and I cluck again and he blew my hat off...we are in the game. I see the bird off to Bucks right we no chance he can turn. I let him walk off and start cutting at him real hard. To make a long story short this bird made a complete circle around us it took him about 45 min....the only way we knew was old mr crow flew over and made him gobble because I had quit calling. We got turned and set and I cut at him real hard again and he double gobbled....a few minutes later I purred at him and he gobbled closer and I knew it was fixing to happen. I saw his head in full color as he was coming just a little to Bucks right. He stopped and strutted and when his head went behind his fan, he signed his death warrant. Buck turned and the bird stuck his head up and Buck dropped him at 38 yards....no flop.

I have never been able to hear a turkey spit and drum...But as we were sitting there talking about the hunt, Buck said to you hear him blowing air? ........Dad didnt but he did....it was an awesome day.

Shout out to Headcrusher turkey calls.....the dixie yelper is one bad mouth call....I never go without it in my mouth.

Congrats!
If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.
