Plastic fishing worm storage.

Postby Seymore » Tue Apr 29, 2014 1:13 am

Any of you guys ever stored your plastic fishing bait in Ziploc bags and have you had any problems. Years ago worms would melt through a tackle box unless the box had been treated with some chemical. I know worms are different now days and it's not as much of a problem. I consolidated a bunch of baits and those that were loose I put in Ziploc storage bags. I didn't mix baits so I'm not worrying about colors bleeding. Do I need to fork over the extra money to get the laminated bags from Bass Pro and similar places specifically made to store worms or am I good with the Ziploc bags.

I put a storage hatch in the seat in the back of the boat and put a hatch in the front seat. There were just to many tackle lures and bags in the boat. I've got hard lures in the back. Hard lures and terminal tackle under my pyramid seat base, and soft plastic in the front hatch. I've now just got 3 boxes in the floor of the boat. I was amazed at the amount of tackle when I started getting it organized. Found a couple of incidents where I had 2 or more bags of the same soft bait.

I got a worm binder years ago from bass pro. It is stuffed to the gills and have never had any issues. I have seen the old baits gel together and do all sorts of sticky nasty stuff.

I had some type of corrosion in my tackle box over the winter. It wrecked most of my hard baits and spinners. It looked like battery acid. I'm still pretty hot about it.

I've got Zerust tabs and capsules stashed in all my tackle boxes and in my gun safe. I've also got the string Zerust cut to length for my gun barrels. My terminal tackle is stored in those Zerust containers available in Sporting Goods at Walmart. It says the boxes will last 5 years. The tabs one and the cubes from 1-2.

Yes, I am obsessive compulsive when it comes to taking care of my stuff. I get it from www.zerustproducts.com. I have found it is much cheaper here than getting it anywhere else. For instance the 1" x 1" tabs are just 14 cents each. 100 for $14.00. The tackle websites have 25 .25"x.25" tabs for $7.75. That's half the product size and 300% fewer tabs being sold at 31 cents each. Same product. Why they have it jacked so high on the tackle web pages and it's so much cheaper on the company page I have not idea.
