Bad weather
Re: Bad weather
Hope everyone down that way is okay this morning. When Brandon and Pearl make it on the Today Show, we took note. Prayers from yankee-land.

Re: Bad weather
It got pretty bad in Forest.
We were at my dads house, and his neighbor lost everything- house, chicken houses, barns, all leveled. Please pray for his wife she was critically injured.

Deltadukman - did you put it on for protection or did you want to buried in it if it got that bad? Ha! Just trying to add a little silliness to what was and still is for some people a serious situation. You and probably do not live that far apart. I know it had me worried.

When you dodge a bullet like that, its a life changing experience for sure. It makes you want to hug, kiss, and say I love you more often. Glad you and yours made it through.Seymore wrote:Tupelo got slammed hard. Go to http://www.djournal.com for a pic slide show. I had all the kids in the bathroom and I was on the front porch watching like and idiot instead of inside with them. Before I could do anything it was on us and I was having a hard time closing the door. Clouds over head were rotating and there was all kinds of stuff in the air from 2x4 pieces of wood to freaking lawn furniture. News is saying it was a "wedge" tornado meaning it was very wide with multiple votices. (don't know if that is plural for vortex or not). Not a couple hundred yards from my house roofs have been torn off. In a neighborhood just a mile or two away there is mass destruction. There was an 8 pm curfew and they are serious about it. I went through 2 road blocks and was told to get my booty home right then.
For several minutes I really thought we were history. I had the kids put their bike helmets on because it was the only thing I could think of to protect their head. I had my ATV helmet on. I'm sure we looked real strange but it was the only thing I could think of to at least protect our head. Like most subdivisions our house just doesn't have anywhere to really go. That is as close as I ever want to get to one. It is a sound I will never forget and hope to never hear again. The pressure changes were popping our ears. My eight year old daughter was so scared she wet her pants.

Re: Bad weather
got real around my house pretty quick as well. Tossed my wife and kids in the tub with a mattress and went back out to check on things...lights went out, so i slung on a headlamp then ran back to the bathroom. At the sight of an unknown "something" running through the dark with a light on its head, Dean (2 y/o son) called for his tab and commenced to "freak out".
pretty sure he's gonna need some sort of 12 step program after all that rockin' and rolling yesterday evening.

My buddy had to go check a building emergency in Jackson yesterday during the fun and had a live power line fall on his truck with him in it.

Said the only interior damage was to his drivers seat.

Storms don't usually scare me (notice I said usually); however, my fear of electricity is great!!!!! I assure you that after that you would never get the smell out of that truck.

There will be a day....

Re: Bad weather
My wife doesn't understand that statement... I was in a very close call on another north Tupelo tornado in 99 or 00 and by blood pressure goes sky high as well as my anxiety since then, almost to the point of being physically sick. It wasn't as bad before I had kids but man I hate bad weather now. If I was a dog you would probably have to put me downnovacaine wrote:When you dodge a bullet like that, its a life changing experience for sure. Re: Bad weather
Tupelo schools let out at 12:30 yesterday which was a very good move. This thing hit about 2:45 which about the time cars start lining up and some of the lower elementary schools start letting out. It would have been much worse had the schools not dismissed. Especially Joyner School. That area got hit very hard and access is still blocked unless a person has a specific official reason to be there or their house is there. Everybody else is getting turned around. I've never understood why folks want to clog the road to go rubber neck something like this. I don't believe it was Tupelo but in one of the other towns that got hit yesterday a news crew was denied access. This news crew then deployed a UAV to take video from the air. The first thing that came to mind was the Don Henley song "Dirty Laundry".
Since the 3 younger kids are in Tupelo schools my older daughter ordered pizza and then rented them a movie. I didn't know what she rented until it was all over. She said that renting "Twister" may not have been a very good idea. Really, at 23 you can't figure that one out. No wonder the 8 year old got so scared she pizzed in her pants and was scared to death the rest of the night. I could have strung my oldest up.
