Like the article states the parents don't teach them how to swim, which is sad. I can tell you though, if they do know how watch out b/c they are as fast as lightning. Most folks don't know that Jackson, MS has a black boy that is the fastest in the nation in his age group in a couple events. He is shooting for the Olympics. I wish the local media would cover more kids like him to give some of these inner city kids something to look up too. Most of the black kids I have met that swim are polite and they work their butts off in the pool. I think it will set them up for a potentially successful future.

That kid embarrasses me regularly. He can literally do a kick set fast than my freestyle.

A lot of their parents don't know how to swim either. Many of them don't have access to pools to learn like many of us.

I actually had a black guy tell me he was raised to be afraid of dogs and water.
