sealing gas system in auto shotgun

Postby Seymore » Wed Jul 09, 2014 11:46 am

Bought a sure cycle for a Browning Gold and on their website it list "gas system sealing" as a service they offer. I've never heard of this. Can anybody tell me what they do to seal a gas shotgun.

I'm just guessing here.......but usually when a 'gas' gun looses it's optimum cycling ability, is when there's excessive corrosion in the barrel lug. Most shotguns have gone to a stainless steel magazine tube/gas cylinder for less corrosion. But the barrels are steel (although some may be chrome-'lined'.

Once a barrel lug starts to corrode, it's harder to keep clean, therfore pitting occurs more rapidly. I suppose what thay do is build-up the metal in the lug area (by plating), then mill it back to specs, open gas ports and apply finishes.

I've got a B2000 trap gun that I've quit cleaning altogether........because if you remove all the crud from the barrel lug, it won't seal and cycle gas through the ports into the gas piston chamber (magazine tube) - thus, it won't cycle. I have found that if you don't clean a Gold on a regular basis, not only is the barrel hard to remove, but the lug gets rusty and corroded pretty quickly. It's hard to get steel wool on your finger and apply enough force inside that lug, to get it really clean.......but that might be a good thing since you don't want to wallow the tolerences out.

If they can't repair the lug, it'll be taken-off and a new one 'swetted' on.

Other than that, I don't know what their 'service' consists of.

What's the website address? - I may be sending them a B2000. :?

They take the piston and replace the springs inside it with a solid sheeve (sp).

I didn't have mine done, and it hasn't missed a beat. The piston spring is prone to break though from reports I've read. I can't confirm as mine hasn't yet. It's 45 bucks or so to have it done. I left mine stock.
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

surecycle.com The owner is a good friend of my dad's. He's a incredibly smart man when it comes to firearms. The AA12 is his design. We've been to his shop in Idaho. It's pretty cool to see how all that stuff is made.

I am not sure they are "prone to break" if I have not broken one!
