It's all a crap shoot planning a date man! I have no recommendations but if you can up and leave on a days notice we are normally looking for guns when it gets right!

Slicks is the only place I would recommend for a timber shoot.
Anywhere else and you're hunting small patches of woods that just aren't going to produce consistently.

If I was planning a timber shoot, I would plan it on a full moon.
Public land is a great option as well.

That is some fine timber hunting, good food, and a lodge right in the timber. Not fancy or cheap but I have been on some truly amazing hunts there over the years.
