Health insurance for kids?

Postby three11 » Wed Sep 24, 2014 8:32 am

Anybody have any advice or options on health insurance for a 9 year old boy? I would prefer low cost/high deductible(I think). I have insurance through work, but rates are high for families. Any help is appreciated.

I have policies for both my boys (5yo and 18 month old) through Blue Cross Blue Shield. I think both have $1500 deductibles and the 5yo's runs under $200 a month. The 18mo's runs a little over $200 a month (Obamacare). They are both "piggy backed" so to speak on my policy somehow so are a little lower than normal rates I think. After the end of this year, though, mine will go up significantly so we will probably be looking at doing a family policy through my wife's work.

We have a plan through golden rule that has a 12000 deductible, and our premium for a family of four is 225/month. It will pay for preventative care, but we pay the first 12000 of everything else. Also, look into establishing an hsa account. You can contribute 6250/yr and write it off on your taxes no matter your income level. This has worked great for us for several years.
