Texas A&M hosting Ole Miss Rebels

Postby SWAG » Wed Oct 08, 2014 3:25 pm

How does this one play out??? I am thinking it will be a very tough game for UM in a very tough environment. First SEC home game for Aggies. Chip on shoulder wanting to prove something. Then again the Rebel defense is maybe best all around in the SEC, or so says the stats. Obvious if you get in Kenny Hill's face he will make mistakes and they really do not try to run the ball. Rebel's could have more than 3 interceptions in this game. Running game for UM should come alive finally. Bo should not have ton of pressure to perform, just hand the ball off and throw it every once in awhile. All of this would happen on a neatral site.....but the high of last week's win over Bama and the first real away game at an opponents home field could be too much for the Bears. Sometimes these 18-22 year olds just don't play very well. Something tells me this is that sort of week for Ole Miss.

From the get-go, I thought this was the 2nd toughest game on the Ole Miss schedule (Bama being the first). But the general rule is that a hostile environment affects defense less than offense, which plays to the Rebel strength. I think that if both teams play their A-game on both sides of the ball, A&M takes this one by a touchdown. But Ole Miss should need just one break to go their way and they can come out of College Station with a W.

Hijack alert.

I can't for the life of me see how this would be true. Do tell.

Defense is primarily a reaction to a visual look (or set) of the offense which would not be affected by crowd noise.

Offense is primarily a reaction to an audible (as in hearing) call by the QB after being lined up.

These two statements would assume that offense would be affected by a hostile (loud) environment than defense.

Yep, you're right. I read "more than offense". Carry on.

P.S. Auburn falls on Saturday. Big time.

if both teams play their A-Game...Ole miss wins by two scores...can Ole Miss plays it's A-Game on the road against a solid opponent after a big win at home??? don't know, hope so

gut tells me this Ole Miss team has the it factor and will play well enough to win this game, I expect a battle...

All I got to say is all the UM fans that are traveling out to Texas for this game, Please for the love of God take precautions and don't
bring the dam ebola back to Mississippi. I live too close to Oxford and come into contact with many people from there. :)

PS, HAIL STATE!

I believe it all lies on Bo Wallace's shoulders. It depends on what Bo shows up. The Ole Miss D will do it's thing. The Rebs just need to count of Bo not making many mistakes.

I know 90% of the folks on this board have seen this, and forgive me if it's already been posted, but Bro Bollace is about the funniest thing that's ever happened on the Finebaum show. Hobby Lobby!

I think their whole season resides on this. Their defense is good enough to keep them in any game. They are scary good. No offense wants a piece of them. As good as their defense is, their offense is lacking at one element, running the football. The first time a team exploits this and Bo has a bad day it's going to be challenging for them to come out with a W.

I agree with you, I think you are right...except, couple of teams have more or less exploited the lack of running game...we've had 3 of 5 games played with less than 100 yards on ground and still won all but the Bama game by 3+ scores. I get the principle of your statement and in theory it's 100% true, except Ole Miss has so far this season won with no running game, including against Bama. That challenges the idea, how much running game does this offense need to be effective???...I mean they had 72 total rushing yards and only 2.3 per rush against Alabama and scored 23 points, and left at least 10 on the field that were lost at no effect of the running game. and that's happened in 3 of their 5 games...so it feels like that's gonna get em, but are they as effective as they wanna be? Seems be working thusfar...

The Ole Miss quick passing game is their running game. If you take that into consideration, they actually have a very decent running game, all things considered. They have a very untraditional, traditional offense if that makes sense. Malzahn is the same way. He has a power running game type offense, like the Switzer days, but does it in a spread.
