Primitive Gun Season

I still hunt PW with a smokepole - TC Renegade - because it's cool and I like it. Can't recall that i've ever not killed a specific deer because my gun wasn't up to it. Lots of other factors but can't blame the gun.

there won't be a deer left in this state if the law makers do not come up with a tagging system soon.

The WMA's reported deer harvest are so skewed they just as well not even do them - my guess is one out of ten deer killed get checked in.

I knew we were headed in the wrong direction when they let us start shooting the single shot 35cal and up.

Its Funny how the biggest deer on public land are harvested on federal lands - where state bag limits don't apply and rules are much stricter

JaMake - the primitive weapon license has been around a very long time. It is nothing new, but you may just be hearing about it. If a person has a Sportsman license, they don't need a primitive weapon license.
If that is the case, I apologize for my ignorance. I've had a lifetime license since I was 12 and hadn't ever heard anything about a PW permit until all these new changes started taking place.

The liberalization of the primitive weapon law was not to increase participation but that may have been a side product. In my opinion the liberalization of the primitive weapon began in the late 90s when scopes were made legal to use on muzzleloaders. Then a few years later what qualified as a primitive weapon changed to allow breach loading firearms using metallic cartridges built on a certain age patent. (I could tell you how this happened, I was at that commission meeting, but I don't want to bore you with the details. Then you had people like me saying that "there is nothing primitive about today's primitive weapons. What difference is it if a deer is shot with a .270 or .444? A dead deer is a dead deer" and the current law came into existence.

Like I said, I've all but given up on trying to keep up with our states deer regulations. I take to the deer woods probably less than 10 days a year now to fill me and my dad's doe quota on our little club and put some meat in the freezer. I would love to see just a two season structure. Oct.1-Nov.30 archery. Dec.1-Jan.31 weapon of choice

I would go for that..

Oct 1st through Nov 30th Archery-Crossbow - Maybe have Youth Rifle season open up early on the traditional Rifle season date
Dec 1st - Jan 31st - Open Gun Season with gun of choice.

No matter what they do somebody is gonna raise hell about it. I think they left the PW restrictions in November in place to appease the gun shops that probably have 35's and 45-70's in stock that would be worthless otherwise.

Yeah, I think they are trying to ease into the changes to appease this group or that group and all it does is confuse all groups..
