AR 25-2 Par 4-5r(7) prohibits certain activities as follows:
Certain activities are never authorized on Army networks. Acceptable use policies will include the following minimums as prohibited. These activities include any personal use of Government resources involving: pornography or obscene material (adult or child); copyright infringement (such as the sharing of copyright material by means of peer-to-peer software; gambling; the transmission of chain letters; unofficial advertising, soliciting, or selling except on authorized bulletin boards established for such use; or the violation of any statute or regulation.
USACE currently has two types of blocks in place at the enterprise level.
-- Information Assurance (IA): First category is for IA purposes and includes blocks for P2P (peer-to-peer), Adware, and Spyware. This can also include certain Pop-Up and Pop-Under ads.
-- Content-based: Second category is based on the content of the web site. USACE has made a corporate decision to block Advertising, Adult Content, Gambling, Lingerie and Swimsuit, Nudity and Sex, and Porn web sites at the enterprise level.
How to have a site unblocked:
-- To unblock sites felt to be erroneously classified, the user must submit a request in writing through their Supervisor or/and to their Local Commander who approves and submits to the USACE CIO’s office. In according with ER 25-1-99.
-- To unblock sites felt to be erroneously classified as IA threats, the user should submit a ticket with the ACE-IT Enterprise Service Desk. Typically, the local information management office will verify the machine used to request the web site is not infected with Adware or Spyware before contacting ACE-IT. The use of this form will result in faster turnaround of unblock requests.
