Duck ID

Postby teul2 » Fri Jan 02, 2015 11:57 am

Can someone tell me what kind of ducks these are? We shot them in the timber for hooded mergansers. Guess they have to be some kind of merganser.

I killed one in Arkansas last week. SOB liked to land on the side of trees. It was slow so we shot it. I havent grilled it yet.

Yea, same here. We killed these in E Ark off the White River this weekend. Never seen a Merganser land on a tree like that.

You will probably have to dust off some old cookbooks for a recipe for Ivory billed woodpecker skewers.

The imperial on the left would make a fine meal though.

I actually have seen a hen merganser fly right into a hole in the top of a cypress tree. I'd say those must be some kind if Eurasian merganser??
