Think I will wait on the FDA approval of the Symfony lens since I have early signs of cataracts anyway...seems to be the bomb.

If you have early signs of cataracts I would agree that it is probably best to wait on cataract surgery to correct your vision. There are already lenses similar to the Symfony on the US market.OBoykin wrote:Think I will wait on the FDA approval of the Symfony lens since I have early signs of cataracts anyway...seems to be the bomb.

The most popular lens in the Jackson is this one... I have had some experience with post ops on this lens and as a whole patients are happy with it. If you are type A and everything has to be perfect at all distances it is probably not the lens for you though.
Multifocal IOL (works like a multifocal contact lens)

Accommodating IOL (allows for your eye do do its own focusing)

It is on a patient to patient basis (with a lot of prescription exclusions) on if these lenses are right for you or not. In my case I am not certain I would get either (I couldn't now due to my prescription anyway). That is not a knock on either lens just they do not fit my hobbies and day to day life.

That is some great info there....seems sorta like IPhones, hate to lock in on a 6 when there will be greater and better down the road. As many of you that duck hunt know, contact lenses have their limitations, and glasses are mostly miserable in weather and wading through limbs before daylight can leave them at the bottom of your duck hole.
Just wondering, what about your prescriptions would make you decide to exclude having this procedure done? I'm sorta ig'nert, but I do find this fascinating in how such a seemingly simple /safe/common surgery can correct vision to the extent of the manufacturer's claims.

Re: Lasik ?
To my knowledge there is not a toric multifocal iol that is out of clinical trials. It is coming but not yet. I have astigmatism and without a topic option multifocals are out for me. I am also a competitive skeet shooter and I want my distance vision to be as clear as possible. There is some give and take to the multifocal iols right now and I would be giving what I want the most. Like I said earlier patient to patient and every cataract surgeon I deal with is quick to tell someone if they feel like it's not the lens for them.

I am about to have my "second" eye done for cataracts. Since I also shoot registered Sporting/FITASC, I also have my corneal lenses (implants?) picked for distance vision.
