Postby cwink » Mon May 11, 2015 1:59 pm

Anyone have the inside scoop? Not trying to condemn anyone.. Just wondering if it was a long gun, or hand gun, new or did someone bring it in for service??? Looks like no major injuries, but it could bad been real bad..

Gun goes off in Bass Pro Shops in Pearl..

According to an "inside" source it was a handgun that was brought in by a customer and went off when the greeter was clearing it, magazine was loaded, shell chambered and went off when the slide dropped.

Edit:

Mag was dropped, so there had to have a round already chambered, but said he didn't pull the trigger.

If that's true, it just goes to show why there are TWO gun safety rules.

I was thinking it went off upstairs at the gun counter and was wondering how would a loaded gun get past the greeter.... Thought maybe a cc'er unholstered upstairs.. Upstairs would have been bad because there really isn't a safe direction at gun counters...

Rule #1 ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction... Sounds like the greeter did that right...

Wow! Glad no one was hurt badly!
This sounds like a policy changer. I wonder if they could justify installing a bullet stop chamber of some sort. Might sound like overkill, but this could have ended very ugly!

"Inside source" said it was in a bullet chamber, they have 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs.

So the stop chamber did it's job! I guess all the fuss is about the boom scaring folks rather than stray bullets bouncing around BPS like WLBT is reporting! Dang media uses any opportunity to put guns in a negative light!
