Coldwater River

Postby GooseHead » Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:47 pm

Does anyone know what the water level on the coldwater is supposed to do over the next few days? I am coming down to hunt with a friend on his lease on the coldwater near Marks. Trying to decide if we should bring the boat. Thanks in advance.

Report from KY.....it is damn cold up here!!! Shallow water and ponds finally froze last night...got down to 9 degrees. Supposed to be 5 degrees tonight with highs in the low 30's for the rest of the week. The backwaters in western KY around the Miss and Ohio rivers are begining to lock up as the water is dropping out and current decreasing. You all should continue to get new birds over the next couple of days.

Hunted the Ohio river near Louisville on Sun...saw several large groups of ducks high and headed south and south west. Managed a 2 man limit of canadas but most of the ducks were bugging out and flying high. Also saw an eagle flying low over the river...awesome sight.

Looking forward to getting back down to MS....allways a good trip, I'll try and bring some migrating fat heads with me.

Yep, bring your boat. PM me and I may be able to shed more light on your spot - hunted over there yesterday.

You're welcome. It looks like flies swarming a 3-day old dead dog in that area. Simply amazing to sit and watch.

Wingman, is everything still frozen up ? Monday, unless you had moving water, the ducks were not interested... for the most part. We did see about 100 pintails standing on ice
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

What I saw today was thin...mostly the edges frozen and the deeper water was open. "Your" general area has the most birds in the county.
I did see two dead pintails and one dead mallard on Hood Road west of Bobo. I guess somebody did a drive-by. :x

We hunted running water this morning and had 6 mallards by sunup.
I won't go into my list of excuses as to why we didn't get the other 2 or the pintails or the specks.

They were stuck in the ice Monday morning...

Couple of our roads are flooded -- go figure. Funny to watch a 100 or so pintails sitting in the water, 'in the road'.
