new shotgun

Postby tom dawg » Wed Feb 09, 2005 10:36 am

my last shotgun was a benelli nova, that i was not very impressed with, it had a ton of problems, now im eventually gonna sell it and im currently looking for a new shotgun, ive narrowed down my choices to 1100 and 870, im more used to an automatic than a pump, but im still not sure
any suggestions?

can't beat an 870 i never cared much for the 1100 seen way too many deer missed and ducks because of the o ring gone bad an 870 super mag would be my choice and will more than likely be my next shotgun purchase as well
shoot them in the face they may be wearing body armor lol

there ain't nothing bout a benelli ever impressed me. i had a super black eagle that was nothing but scrap iron. mabey i got a lemon i don't know. all i know is i spent more time ordering parts for it, than i did shootin it.. my advise is only buy browning and beretta. i shoot a browning gold, never had a minutes trouble out of it. my fiance shoots a beretta. it's a hell of a gun. for what it's worth that's my advise.

i dont think they make the 1100 anymore in 3"...

Look hard at the Beretta 390

If I can ask what problems did you have with the Nova. I have had mine for a long time and have only had one problem just recently with it. And the problem was more than likely my fault.

Mosseberg 835! Never had a problem with it. But if your stuck between those two, go with the 870.

I have an 870 and an 1187 and havent had any problems. I like the 870 a little better if I am going to be wading deep water or getting into some sticky situations because it is easier to take care of and cheaper!

own a b. gold and it hangs alot for me. i guess i don't like taking it apart after each hunt to clean it porperly. tooooo much trouble. also had some barrell trouble and browing said " see my ammo dealer". not going back there. for the money and maintenance i would go with 870. my 2 cents

How is the Gold hanging? I clean mine like, 3 times a year, so that is probably not it. It sounds like you need to lap the rails or check the stock spring without knowing more.

I'll tell you the problem he had, when he shucked his gun and put another one in the chamber it automatically fired, he didnt pull the trigger it just went off, tried it again did the same thing, little scarry, I also have a nova and has been fine but now its starting to jam every time you put more than one shell in it, It's probably my fault but it ticked me off enough im probably getting a 870, I should have had a limit of mallards last week end before 6 45 and it jammed, had to go all the way to the camp house to go get another gun, which was an 870.

berretta AL 391 auto 26 in barrell- I like the wood over the synthetic, it is lighter that the synthetic model and more balanced , great for ducks and dove

870 is the best in my opinion and 835 is best back-up gun. But, my back up is a Mossberg 835. Toughest gun I have ever owned. Used as a boat paddle, dropped in lake poured water out cycled a couple of times and no problems.
