You know me and Ramsey's motto!!! How was the rabbit part of the hunt? I bet busting that hog with your pistol was a rush. I would have like to seen that.

I guess you two relize you were violating the game laws by shooting that nice hog with a center fire gun. It is a stupid law, but after the rifle deer season the only gun you can use leagally to hunt with is a 22 or a shotgun with #2 shot or smaller. It really makes killing a big hog tough with a 22. I wish the state would see the benifit of killing hogs whenever possible and actually make it leagal to use a gun big enough to do the job when it's not deer season.

Read the wording...Carefully.

WEAPONS AND LOADS
Legal weapons for hunting from one-half (1/2) hour after sunset to one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise are restricted to handguns or rifles using no larger than .22 standard rimfire cartridges (no 22 magnums) and shotguns with shot no larger than No. 6.

Landowners, agricultural leaseholders or their designated agents may take predatory animals year-round on lands owned or leased by them.

MDWFP gave us a permit to hunt the hogs. I'm not 100%, but I believe we are allowed to take them by any firearms necessary, as long as it is within our property boundary. The game warden that gave the club the permit didn't seem to have a problem with it. It is near impossible to bring down a 350# boar with a .22 or #6 shot, even when you trap them in a pen. A .22 does more harm than good. The only way to take down a boar that size in a humane way with a small caliber is to hit it in the brain or brainstem, most effectively thru the ear. I don't know about you, but I am not sticking my little 'ol arm thru that cage to aim a .22 pistol at a boar's ear.
