Left that one out UnklJohn. Diesel has some oil in it so it doesn't dry out the crankcase so bad but will help pull the water out and also breakdown any sludge buildup.

I sink my kodiak at least three or four times a year. nothing to it, just fill motor with diesel fuel to top of fill plug. I usually crank mine for a moment (about 30 seconds) drain and clean filter fill with fresh oil. Then go run hell out of it for about 30 minutes to dry any other moisture. If it stays completly down for a little while you might want to check oils in gear boxes also

THAT HEATING IT UP BY RUNNING IT REALLY IS THE TICKET. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE. I DID THAT AND IT LOOKED MUCH BETTER, BUT I WENT AHEAD AND CHANGED IT AND THE FILTER. I'M KINDA WONDERING IF IT WAS ALL CONDENSATION TO BEGIN WITH.

I am bringing this topic back up since I sunk my 300 this weekend. There is some great advise on this topic.

Here is my main question. Do you really want to crank it up with diesel fuel in it. I do have water in my oil and am planning on changing it tonight. I have to have my bike to get to where my turkeys are.


And my second question, how many oil filters will I need during this cleaning process.

I have a honda 450 that I sunk last year. I put 1 qt. oil and 1 qt. diesel fuel in and run at idle for about 30 secconds. Drained all out . Got rid of the water. Had a mechanic tell me that was the only way to clean oil that was on top of the piston. Unless you crank it you will always be mixing good oil with water/oil. The diesel didn't seem to harm anything...

I have had many experiences with are accidents whichever you prefer. First thing I do is pull plug on breather box then take air filter out and let it dry you can pour gas on it if you want to clean it. Then pull spark plug out and put your finger over the whole to build compression while you turn it over release your finger and it will shoot out any water that is on top of the piston. Then drain your oil and run diesel through it which ever method you prefer, but I have always just ran it through without cranking. Then add your oil back may not hurt to run for a while then drain it again. If you want to really have an experience try sinking your Z71 getting the water out of it is a little harder. Whats that they say hey bubba hold my beer, ya'll watchis. It was one of those experiences.

Best advice I can give is to take it to the dealer. Probably $150 to change all fluids and give it the sunk bike treatment. Money well spent to avoid problems downstream...no pun intended!

Well I did learn to never try to get your boat floating in back water of steele bayou with a 4 wheeler. :lol: :lol: :lol:



I did the diesel trick last night two times and I believe I am good to go. I appreciate all the help. Later this week I will go ahead on and change the rest of my fluids (front and rear gear oil).
