Looking for a male lab........

Postby duforester » Tue Jan 22, 2002 4:59 pm

I am looking for an AKC registered male lab to breed to my AKC registered chocolate female. I would prefer someone near the Starkville area with a top-quality dog with a good background. Any suggestions?

I have a yellow male that I has bread before with good results though I'm not sure if he is exactly what you're looking for. If you're looking for a proven field trial dog or something, that he is not. He is mostly a pet, though I do occassionally hunt with him.

He is AKC and UKC registered and most of the dogs on his pedegree are good field trialers.

Like I said, if you're looking for a big money dog, mine is not what you're looking for, but thought I would offer anyway.

I live two hours from Starkville, but am there frequently.

Email me and I can tell you more if you're interested.

duforester, I may can help you on this one. My buddy in Jackson has a 2 yr old yellow lab, most laid back lab I've ever seen. Champ's mom was a chocolate lab. I can run down his number so you can talk with him about Champ if you want. He can give you more background info than I can.

Something bout rescessive, and double recessive, and a bunch of stuff I don't know or care about. But thats how you get dudleys and such. Some yellers have black noses, and some kinda brownish pink noses, and all that stuff. Just go with a black dog and you aint got to worry bout it!
Seriously, before someone breeds color combos, they ought to ask someone smarter than me. travis

I would prefer to breed Remi with a chocolate male or with a black male. I'm running out of time this "heat" though. This coming weekend is the prime time.

I've heard that stuff about which colors to breed to which colors and don't know what to think about it. The last time I bred him, however, it was to a chocolate. She threw five chocolates and three blacks.

My dog's mother was black and father was yellow, and the two had had several litters together, and my dog's litter was the first that she didn't throw ALL chocolates. Go figure.

duforester, I forgot that my buddy also has a black lab male. He's 10 months old but not 100% ready for the field, but he's gonna be awesome, just not as good as Champ.

North Mississippi may be a long way to travel for you, but I have an excellent chocolate male that I have bred several times with a select few owners. He won the 1997 MSHRC Duck Dog Championship his first try. He is an excellent hunter, and I have several children that jump on him and pester him constantly, and he never lets it bother him. He is medium build, about 70lbs, and not an ounce of fat on him. I can give you several references of the dam's owners or pup buyers that have come from Beau. I can also email you copy of his AKC pedigree, as well as pictures.

My stud fee is pick of the litter, and a bag of your dog's feed. It would be better to leave her with me for several days to insure proper mating. I am not a professional breeder by any means, but if you see my dog you will be impressed. He has alot of heart , but is very calm natured and intelligent. I have all his medical records, as well as hip information. Email if you are interested.

Did I read that this weekend was when you think your dog will be ready? I think Beau knows its still duck season!!

I bred him with two yellows, one litter had 5 blacks and 2 chocolates (the owner was hoping for yellows!) and the another dam was yellow that produced 6 blacks and four yellows. That is the fun with labs, you never know what will turn out!!

Duforrester, no dog should be bred till they are 2 years old and tested for genetic defects (i.e. hips and eyes at a minimun). They wont certify that stuff till a dog is 2 years old. travis
