How many years experience?

Postby goosebruce » Tue Jan 22, 2002 6:36 pm

Gonna be 31 next week, or maybe this week. Whens the 25th? Anywho, I've been doing this since prenatal times, cept for 3 years I took off to fish and find a woman to marry me. How i quit seems strange now, but my dad had died, the ducks had gotten poor, my brother had quit years earlier, and my friends all started deer hunting. The short seasons and lack of partners made fishing a real option and was much eaiser to find a wife during that period of time (i.e. fishing, instead of hunting) than it would be now. She swears I never mentioned I hunted, but I made sure to not decive her, I always told her I am a duck hunter, just fishing right now.
Oh, Jan 25th is significant. Cause I was due during the season, but my dad knew Id be late. My mom hunted the first spilt pregnant with me that year, till her waders wouldnt fit anymore. My son was due jan 29th, but they said hed come early. I told em my son wouldnt be born during duck season. Well he wasnt, he was born 4 months early in oct, and came home 6 days after the season wa sover that year. Its a family tradation, and hes 4 now, and cant understand why he cant go duck hunting with the big boys (12 & 11). travis

'Started when I was 14......in 1968.....'guess that makes 34 years. 'Same story for my wife. We've been at it (together), for 24 years, now. 'Guess that's why the low success rates of this season don't really bother me, that much.....'kinda like dollar cost averaging....we've had plenty o' good years to make-up for the bad ones. since1965 My brother was 18 and my father must have wanted to kill him. We hunted on the edge of a frozen oxbo lake outside of Greenwood. A tornado of ducks kept a small area thawed and my father said we could not hunt because we had no way to retrieve the ducks, my brother said he would swim after them. Long story short he threw 27 ducks back to the bank, daddy said what about those decoys, brother said uuuck them decoys!

17 years. Although, I have a 2 yr old son and hope to hunt with him. I hope he enjoys it as much as I. Any tips on building his enthusiasm?

28 years. I'm going to be 40 this July. Called and killed my first duck (mallard hen)hunting by myself when I was 12 with a Winchester single barrel 16 ga and blue Peter's 6 shot lead. Before age 12 I did a lot of dreaming about duck hunting.

This sport has come a long way from our corduroy coats and yellow laced, green gum boots. Too many batteries required nowadays.
