McDonald's Allstar Game

Postby Bankermane » Wed Mar 30, 2005 9:03 pm

Lot's of talent on the court. Monta has not been very impressive. With 3 minutes left Monta has only 3 points(1/7). Missed a dunk and a lay-up. Announcers keep talking about him going pro. Monta said on a pregame interview that the NBA was his lifetime dream. If given the chance he will go pro.

I think he ended up with 8 pts, but didn't show anything that he's capable of doing. Either he's knows something about the draft that no one else does, or he realizes that he needs to go to msu to better himself. He's not ready for the nba right now, physically or mentally.

as a state fan that was just the kind of game we needed monta to have... he wasn't that impressive at all... of course the scouts say that the game is much less important than what takes place in the pratices that preceed the game..

all indications are that he had a very good week of pratice...

my take:: i've seen monta play twice in person and once on t.v.

extremly quick, good leaper, inconsistent jumper.. needs to get stronger... plenty of upside...

upside is what really matters.. it seems that the pros draft on potential more that anything.. monta could use a couple of years of ncaa ball.. however i think they'll still draft him in the first round

This is the final year for the NBA's collective bargaining agreement. It will expire, I think, in July. Word is that the new agreement probably will not allow players to me drafted until they reach 20 years old. Speculation is that a lot of high school players' as well as, foreign players and college underclassmen will come out this year before the agreement could keep them from going pro. If so, Monta could have more competition in the draft.

I thought most of them were already 20 in high school.

hey bankermane wouldn't it be states luck that they change all that stuff up next year... hell not only that.. but once they change it up we prolly won't have another mcdonalds all- american first round potential draftee for eons.. typical msu luck

bmane whats your take on ellis????

Draft City's thoughts on Ellis... Monta Ellis- 8 pts (3-10 FG, 1-5 3pt, 1-3 FT), 3 reb, 2 asst, 2 stl, 1 TO, 4 fouls 17 min

Jonathan Givony

A terrific athlete, with spectacular lift on his picture perfect shot and a very nice first step. Ellis clearly has all the tools in the world, but very little in terms of intangibles or an NBA position at the moment. He was forcing bad shots all night, every time has was asked to run the PG position he brought the ball up the court, stopped at the three point line and elevated for a shot without even looking in the general direction of the rest of his team. His coach was clearly not happy about this, and neither were his teammates apparently. Ellis was the only player today who really treated this game like a personal NBA workout, and showed a pretty poor attitude when things weren’t going his way. He would pout anytime one of his teammates dared to take a shot, complained to the refs and anyone else who was willing to listen, and sat on the end of the bench and did not talk to anyone when he was not on the floor. As you will read in the somewhat disturbing interview we conducted with him after the game, Ellis was not happy about the minutes he played (pretty much on par with the other draft prospects in the game), the number of shots he was given and the fact that he wasn’t played exclusively at the PG spot. Here is what Monta had to say about this: "He [the coach] figured that I was a better shooter then anyone on the floor, so he put me at the two. Then when I played for the first 7 minutes and I didn’t get in for the next what 20 some minutes? He expect me to get in and do what I need to do when I’ve been sitting on the bench for 20 minutes. You know? You get stuff like that. I can play the 1. Most people have seen it this year that I can play the 1. My last 15 games, I was up to about 10 or 11 assists a game, so there ain’t no doubt that I can play the 1. I can play the 1."

I haven't seen him play, so I really don't have an opinion. I think his size, experience, an level of competition will hurt him. I don't think he will be one of the top 20 players available in the draft, but someone may draft him high based on his future potential. Watching the NCAA tournament you see a lot of good guards that are use to playing against good defenses, can shoot in traffic, and are use to playing on TV and in front of huge crowds. Monta looked like a deer in headlights last night with all the interviews and attention he was getting. The better players all seemed commited to college and weren't concerned about impressing people or showing off for the scouts. On the otherhand, if he goes to State, he will be in a rebuilding program and likely will not get that much exposure.

You forgot this:
An NBA scout’s take: “Monta is a great player, especially when it comes to scoring, but he did not help himself tonight with the way he played. He looked out of his element at the PG position, and displayed a very poor attitude both on and off the floor. That’s going to be somewhat of a concern for us. He’s going to have to bring it big time in New York. He’d be smart to keep all his options open”.

Sounds like a keeper.

I copied and pasted that article from another site, not from the draft city site. The bottom part wasn't on there.

I was around when Alabama got beat by Milwaukee. I never trash talked anytime about our chances in the tourny. Didn't think we'd make it too far this year. But I did point out the fact we beat your sorry booty team twice this year...once by 50 points.

Richard Hendrick played last night. Bama signee. 50/50 on whether he jumps to the NBA. Doesnt appear to have the attitude problem this Monta fool has.

The "Monta fool" would be great if'n he had signed with the Crim$on tide

We got an Alabamma kid now that thinks going to class and making team meetings is minor "high school stuff". I got a feeling Walter better shape up or he'll be playing for Jacksonville State
