MDWFP funding

Postby Morning Wood » Mon Apr 04, 2005 4:07 pm

A recent Clarion Ledger article described the Legislature's balking at authorizing the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Park's funding requests. MDWFP is funded by a separate fund that takes in money from license sales, fees and fines for wildlife violations. These funds cannot be used for other departments by statute. Authorizing their use will not take money away from other programs or departments. The money is already there and will not have to come from additional taxes or fees.

Failure to authorize MDWFP Park's funding requests is projected to shut down numerous Wildlife Management Areas and state fishing lakes. It will also result in a layoff of 20% of the departments workforce. The state may also be liable to repay millions of dollars in federal funds. All because the legislature will not authorize expending funds which are already there and which cannot be spent for other budget needs.

Below are the email addresses of all of the Mississippi representatives and senators that are on the respective Appropriations Committee and Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Committee of the House and Senate. Please send them an email expressing your views as a sportsman on why the Legislature should fully honor the MDWFP's budget request. Please then send this email to all Mississippi sportsmen that you know.

Highlight the addresses, right click and select 'copy', start a new email and right click in the 'to' column and select 'paste', personalize your message and send it! The future of public hunting and fishing in Mississippi may hinge upon letting our legislators know how strong the sporting public in this state is.

Ain't this country in a mess!

Budget time rolls around and we all line up at the trough. Griping and complaining, pushing and shoving to get ours...

I dread the next week or two in Ms. There will be more politics, lies and scare tactics than I care to hear
