You can generally figure around 1500 bucks for a started dog. Obedicene trained, collar condtioned, force fetched, steady enough for a bumper toss but not the duck blind, delivers to hand and exposed to birds, decoys, and guns.

You can generally figure around 3000 to 5000 for a dog doing steady doubles, and true cold blinds. Dog should be able to swing with gun, remain steady while shooting birds in training, and be exposed to tools of the trade... i.e. boats, 4 wheelers, decoys, etc. For this kind of money, generally some custom training for the way the new owner hunts should be expected.

You can generally figure 5000-10000 for a true finished dog. This dog should be able to hunt in any scenario given. Always steady, 90% + on casts given, and 100% silent. You name it on a hunt, a finished dog ought to do it. remote sits, quatering, remote loading into vehicles, 4 wheelers, boats, and be able to sit while things are going on around you (i.e. breaking ice, setting deeks, etc).

Be VERY wary of peoples defientions. Because a 'trained' dog to one person, wont be to another. A started dog to one person, will be a 'ready to hunt dog to another'.

Health is a very important concearn. Expect someone who has better bred dogs to start with, to want a little more the product. Also, color and sex will influence price too, females and yellows and chocs go for more money. Simple supply and demand.

When buying a 'trained dog', you get to see what you are getting.

Be cautious of dog deals that look too good to be true. They probably are.

And yes I have a couple of youngsters that will be ready by middle of sept most likely. Very well bred stlyish male, and a very well bred stylish female. Possibly another female, but she is progressing a little slower, and I refuse to rush her. They will be intermidate level dogs as I described above when they are ready. travis

If you are wanting information...that is what this site is ALL about. We like to keep people from making uninformed decisions and help out folks exactly like yourself that may not know a lot about retrievers, prices, training etc etc.
