let me ask you um fans this... see if ya'll can help me with this...

now theres all kinds of different fans out ther.. for example theres fans like gh22 who would pull for the north koreans before he'd root for um...

and then you got fans who only pull for thier rival... when it would benefit their program for their rival to win..

then say someone like myself, who lots of time i've looked at teams um was playing and said... you know i'd rather root for a bunch of guys from miss. than a team made up of mostly players from out of state..

my question is why do i want to see the coach o fail so badly.. i mean now keep in mind that i'm they type of fan who has rooted for um on numerous occasssions, just because of the mississippi connection...

but what is it that has me wanting o to fall flat on his face this year?? is it the way the cutt was handled?? is it the arrogance of coach o???

can any of you guys help me.. i don't remember wanting tuberville to fail like this or cutt... but this coach o.. i dunnno!!!!

I don't know what your deal is???? Personally I would love nothing more than to see State beat the crap outta LSU! And numerous other schools, just not all in the same year :D

I wouldn't think it's arrogance, I have never thought he came across as arrogant???? He's confident, but most of that is a ploy to get his team and his fans to buy into his system. No differnt than Croom promising to beat Ole Miss in the egg bowl...which was obviously not a good idea considering the state of the Bulldog football team.

Maybe, deep down inside, your seriously threatened by the idea the he might actually be the coach to put Ole Miss on the next level, and that would be as bad for State as another 3-8 season...

camlock son let me assure you of one thing.... that proverbial next level that we hear so much about... well thats just it ...thats all the schools in miss. will ever do to the "next level" is hear about it!!!!

i'll hold my breath until um reaches that next level...

hey man don't feel bad um was once on that level back in the 50 and 60's... before the negro player.. at least you have that..

to reach that next level means a consistency.. it means winning at a high level for more than just a year or two.. it means getting the cream of the crop// top recurits to come to your school.. that just aint gonna happen here in miss..

but we've still got hope

I didn't mean to imply that I thought he would bring Ole Miss to another level, I just said maybe your dislike is spawn from a fear of it happening in the back of your mind :? Denial is the first sign!

I think the unsettling thing about Coach O for many inside and outside of the UM family is what he represents for UM ----- a rejection of the mindset that we are just little ol UM from Mississippi and should never expect to do any better than a 7-8 win season and a trip to a minor bowl.

This appears to be the national perception of the firing of Cut and hiring of Coach O as well. Sort of this type of mentality : how dare Ole Miss fire a coach who had winning records almost every year for a chance to be even better ---who do they think they are? ---they should know their place.

I was not one of the UM fans in favor of firing Coach Cut after one bad season. But, under the circumstances now known after his departure, it may have been a blessing in disguise. But, what really got me fired up in favor of the firing decision and hiring of Coach O was the response to Cut's firing as referenced above. My thought is that why shouldn't Ole Miss expect to compete in the upper echelon of the SEC, year in and year out? It IS time to raise the bar. And it is clear that Cut would likely never have been able to get us to that higher level of play, primarily due to his poor judgment in the hiring of assistants which led to his inability to ever really get a good handle on the defensive side of the ball. Such was his undoing. You CANNOT win titles in the SEC without a very good defense. Cut simply refused to make any positive changes to his staff or his "system", which were exposed as lacking after Eli graduated. UM had simply gone as high as it could go under Cut.

I am withholding judgement on Coach O. To-date, to his credit, he has talked a good game and shown an ability to relate to the alums and fire up and unify most of the fan base(as evidenced by the record season ticket sales). He had a good recruiting year, expecially considering his late start. The players appear to like him and are responding to his style of coaching as evidenced by the high retention rate of the returning players, their catching on quickly to his offensive and defensive schemes, and their offseason improvement in strength, speed, and stamina. He has shown that he will not tolerate a lack of discipline from the players or his coaching staff. BUT, he has still not coached a game yet. And the proof will come, as it does with all coaches, in the win and loss columns. Until he has some wins under his belt against some good opponents, I will refrain from annointing him as the saviour of UM football.

The fact that so many outside of UM are already demonizing Coach O is hilarious and tells me that we are on the right track and doing something right ----otherwise, they would not care. Sort of like, as a conservative, I KNOW we are doing the right thing when Ted Kennedy and a handful of the usual suspects are all up in arms and whining about something.

Bigwater, it ain't nothing for me to blow sunshine up someone's booty.

Like I said, I'm CAUTIOUSLY optomistic ---not predicting any titles this season or anything like that. But, I do think that UM is being underrated this season (and rightfully so from an outsiders point of view), just as UM was overrated somewhat before the season last year (most, including me, did not expect THAT big of a dropoff post-Eli). With some improvement at the QB position ---which is reasonable to expect with 3 QBs with SEC game experience returning ----and some improvement on the defensive side ---which is reasonable to expect due to returning talent and Coach O's scheme and coaching ----UM could win 7-8 games this season just playing average football. I think our schedule is that favorable. Coach O, with hard work and a little luck, could look like the reincarnation of Vince Lombardi without even having a great team. Such would be a great start at UM and help recruiting, but would likely create unrealistic expectations for future seasons when the schedule will not be this favorable.

Just my 02. I could be wrong -----like I was last season. We'll know soon enough. UM MUST win its first 3 games against Memphis, Vandy, and Wyoming to have a chance at a decent 7-8 win season. Drop one of those games, and its likely 6-5 at best. Drop two or three, and it will get ugly. A 3-0 start with The Citadel, Kentucky, Arkansas (in Oxford) and MSU remaining, and a 7-4 or better season is within reach.

If we start 3-0, I'll be ready to go head butt someone.
