100 yrs of high school football

Postby ducksak » Fri Aug 19, 2005 6:02 pm

100 years ago the first high school football game was played in the state of Mississippi between Winona and Yazoo City. Yazoo City won the first game 5 to nothing. Tonight Winona and Yazoo City will play each other in a jamboree to mark the 100 year mark. I can only imagine how things have changed in a 100 years. GO TIGERS!

The Indian team I played for in '68 was probably a sight different from the one this weekend! Who won?

That '68 Yazoo City team had 8 offensive players go on to play college ball and 3 on defense. The '69 team was even better.

Ah...glory days!

Crow, was Larry Kramer one of those on the 69 team?

YHS won the other night-- 7-0

Yep, Larry was a junior in '68. Next year, he tore up the league! He's one of those that never found his stride in college ball...stayed hurt. Ken Graeber was our quarterback...wound up playing golf at Ole Miss.

Dang, either it was a defensive struggle or the offenses weren't quite ready for prime time! But, hey, it's a W for the home team!
