Let's breakdown the OM/UA game, history, records....

Postby webbmaster » Mon Oct 10, 2005 2:27 pm

Actually there is not much to compare.

Series: Alabama leads 42-8-2

Alabama
12 National Championships; 21 SEC Championships; 51 Bowl appearances

Ole Miss
3 NC's; 6 SEC Championships; 31 Bowl appearances.

The only thing OM has going into this game is the fact they have won the last 2 meetings in Oxford. Needless to say the Ole Miss faithful seem to forget that these 2 games were the only ones they won in a span of about 16 years. Plus, they also forget these 2 were sandwiched in between 3 spankings by the Tide (combined score of 115-21 Ouch!). Not to mention, OM had the best QB they will ever have under center against a heavily sanctioned Bama team.

But, now things are back to normal. I told you guys it wouldnt last long.

This will be a nice warm-up game before the Viles come to town.

Bama 28
Ole Miss 13

The Tide plays somewhat conservative. They try to find their new playmakers since Prothros injury, and look to take Croyle out midway through the 3rd quarter to keep him healthy for next week.

One thing I'd like to point out, Croyle apparently banged his knee up in the Florida game. It shouldn't be a factor on him playing. In fact, I doubt you'll hear much about it. But let it be known that if by some miracle Ole Miss wins, that will be the reason.

you didn't have to post all that to let us know that the odds were way in bama's favor

i will say this..... i've got an old program or something from when dad played here, and listed in it are bowl appearances. # 1 was Bama, # 3 i believe was Ole Miss, granted this was early 70's. Just kind of interesting.... then we apparently went to hell in a handbasket with some bad coaching hires

I'm not saying Ole Miss is going to win the game, but I will go out on a limb and say that the only way that Croyle leaves this game Sat. before the final tick of the clock will be on a stretcher or in the back of a John Deere Gator.

I don't think it will be a blowout. And, if the Tide does not play well, it very well could be a UM win to make it 3 in a row in Oxford. Much, much stanger things have happened. The Rebs are due to play a good game, putting all three phases of the game together. Might happen this Sat.

The Ole Miss offense is entirely too inept to move the ball on the Bama defense, so I'm not holding out for any miracles. But Croyle should look out for number 49. He's averaged fourteen or fifteen tackles with one hand. Part of that is the scheme, but he's a stud for sure. Hate to see Croyle go down before Phil and the big orange roll into town.

I honestly think it will be closer than most think. It seems like Alabama always plays a little sluggish after a bye week. Plus, we could come out and be looking ahead to TN next week kind of like we did against Arkansas with FL looming. (Speaking of Arkansas, where is that Razorbak fan? )

I hope everybody on both sides stays healthy.

bigwater, surely you don't want the stadium to burn with you in it?

don't worry, there will be enough drinks in the stands to douse any fire

the only fire I want to see is on the Rebs' offense

One sure fire way to know if the Bama fans really think "the Tide is Back" is to count the number of RVs from Alabama present on the campus as early as Wednesday and Thursday.

camlock... i was only kiddin in my post so simmer down..

what i meant to say was that i hope they play to a tie after 35 overtimes. ... then the stadium burns... bwabwaaaaa..

you know one more thing cam... i get real tired and sick of hearing our stadium called a high school stadium... what does vaught-hemmingway seat??? anyone.. anyone... approx 60,000.. guess what scott field seats approx 55,000.. that aint much difference right there..

sure yours is bigger but not by much.. if were a high school stadium and you only seat 5,000 more... then cam... your stadium is a prepschool/junior college stadium...

As for the number of RVs....

They'll be just as many there this weekend as there was 2 years ago.

As for the high school stadiums....

The quality of play hasn't been that much better than a high school team, so the shoe fits.

I don't know webbmaster, I think I saw a decline in the number of RVs the last time the Tide rolled into Oxford. They used to get to Oxford, or Jackson (when the game used to be played there), very early in the week compared to other schools' fans. I always thought that was pretty cool as well as indicative of a lot of retirees following the Tide football program. It certainly adds to the game week and game day atmosphere on campus.
