Tide backup QB Wilson arrested on DUI charge

Oct. 17, 2005
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

NORTHPORT, Ala. -- Alabama backup quarterback John Parker Wilson was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Wilson was arrested early Sunday and posted bond, Northport Police Lt. Kerry Card said Monday. Card said the player was not involved in an accident.

The freshman, who turned 20 on Monday, has played in three games this season for No. 5 Alabama and is 3-for-3 with a 36-yard touchdown pass. He beat out Marc Guillon for the No. 2 job behind Brodie Croyle in spring practice.

Coach Mike Shula had no immediate comment, spokesman Larry White said.

Guess the damn cop that pulled him over was an Auburn fan! I'll make sure to reach out to the Student Govt. Assoc. and ensure that he has his assigned designated driver next time! :D

"what happened to the good ol days"

Gone forever. The old "boys will be boys" attitude of local authorities, and helping out the old home team occassionally with a wink and a nod, have bit the dust of political correctness.

Thanks goodness I attended college at the tail end of the "good old days" and got to experience the "golden age" of the college life at UM ---- annual Shrimp and Beer party at Sardis; Dixie Week in the Spring; open and outdoor fraternity parties after football games; taking my whiskey flask to the football games for some false hope and courage  ; when 18 was the legal drinking age; The Gin; The Warehouse; Forester's; Sid and Harry's; Ireland's Pub; Ben and Todd's at the county line; The Hoka; .................ahhh, the memories. 8)

And if a football player were out partying with the rest of the students ---happened all the time ---- he was not a "target". Unless that player did something really, really stupid or out of line, he would not go to bed in the local jail or be in the news the next day.
