One mallard band, he was banded 15 years before I shot him, or he had a heart attack.

5--Three Greenheads, one gadwall and one snow goose.
Been hunting for about 15 years. Guided hunts for five of those years in a jam up place and only had one band the whole time. Killed two of the greenheads and the snow last season.
Just goes to show that no matter how many ducks you kill, you just have to be lucky sometimes.

I've got one -- came off a Woodie I got -- it was actually the 3rd duck I ever killed -- Anyone know what the oldest banded duck killed on record is??? a buddy and I were talking the other day and he said someone told him that there was a banded mallard killed that was reported to be 28 years old -- is he full of crap or is this really true ???-- just curious-- I've been trying to find some info about this but still no luck -- anyone know????

I've never heard of one being that old, I think the oldest one that I read about in a DU magazine was 19 years old. I killed a pintail that was 16 years old or older. I think after they get past about 8 years old they are indeed a trophy, they've seen everything man and Ma' Nature can throw at them 1,000 times over and survived.
