hey
im a new duck hunter....most of the ducks around here are woodducks and ive killed a few as they have flown over ( i even killed a banded one)...but i cant seem to get them to come in....will a woodduck respond to a mallard call? what is the best way to call in woodducks?

Them thing dont listen to mallards.. you can buy a wood duck whistle but to my knowledge wood ducks dont decoy.

PM Bigwater, he is an expert on killin wood ducks and merganzers in duck holes that are of the beaten path.

wood ducks will decoy if you know the general area they want to go and put out a couple of decoys
I think Wood Ducks will respond to decoys and calls to a certain extent...
I have had then flying over head before with no interest in where I am, then I blew a couple of times on a Mallard call and some of them started to drop in....
It is hard to tell though they fly so fast and for a short period of time, that it makes it difficult to tell if the calls get thier attention or if you are just where they want to be..
One thing is for sure, decoys and a couple of clucks on a call won't hurt..
