white spot on tail?

My 4 month old female has a white spot coming up on her tail. It is still under the black and can not be seen good unless you brush the black out of the way. I have three young boys that play pretty rough with her and wonderred if it could be from trauma to her tail. She is from a very good blood line (suppose to be). Has anyone ever seen this?

I have heard of some with a small white spot but I don't know what it is from.

Kenny, google it and I think you will find a good bit of info on the net. From what I have read, it is something that shows up everyonce in a while....similar to the white spot on the chest, but more rare. I think it may even be a disqulification for show dogs. I would not worry about it unless I was planning on "showwing" the dog.

Here is an excerpt from the AKS Breed Standard:

"Color

The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. White hairs from aging or scarring are not to be misinterpreted as brindling.
Black - Blacks are all black. A black with brindle markings or a black with tan markings is a disqualification.
Yellow - Yellows may range in color from fox-red to light cream, with variations in shading on the ears, back, and underparts of the dog.
Chocolate - Chocolates can vary in shade from light to dark chocolate. Chocolate with brindle or tan markings is a disqualification."

I have seen numerous times where a dog has suffered trauma, and colored hairs have been replaced with white ones. Could have been trauma from rough playing, or even where another dog inflicted damage playing or otherwise. I supposed it could be just one of those things that happen. I have seen black dogs with a white spot on there chest, around one toe, or even on the tail.

From your post, it sounds as though you might question her parentage due to this white spot showing up. I can assure you she is from who she is supposed to be from, but if you want to be sure, DNA Profile her. Both the sire and the dam are DNA profiled through AKC and UKC, and it is something you probably want to do anyway for security measures and potential future breeding. Tink is DNA VIP eligible through UKC since both parents are profiled.

Matthew, I am not worried. That was more of a joke to point out that everybody has a "champion" dog in their own mind. She is doing great by the way. I think I am going to try some started test this spring even though she will still be a little young.

I bought a British lab November of last year -- and I've got a wiemerener -- both are pure bred and both have white spots on their chest -- I woudln't be worried
