Best Hunting Coats
Best Hunting Coats
First time poster here. I am in the market for a new hunting parka and wanted to get some input. Will be wearing it for deer and duck hunting. I am cold natured so I am looking for something that has a good bit of insulation. Any recommendations? Any brands that you would not buy?

I bought a Hush Hide with a zip out liner and hood pretty cheap about 5 years ago. I like it. You can't beat the price as compared to a Columbia or Browning.

I bought a drake coat this year and i have to say that it is the best coat ive ever worn. I dont know about wearin it deer huntin though. Dont really see why it would matter though. For duck huntin it is perfect, pockets in just the right places and very well thought out.

Not tryin to steer you the wrong way or anything but just something to consider, try layering up instead of a heavy coat. I like the columbia line of wool clothing. Put on some long johns, then a long sleeve cotton shirt covered with a wool shirt and pants and you'll never get cold and still be able to move very easily. I'm not against wearing a coat, I've just been more comfortable doing it this way.

I like best the browning down/goretex combo. IMHO, columbia quads suck.

I have a game hide that is sunny seventy five on the inside when it's cold out. I have had to unzip it when it was covered with ice front and back to let the heat out at 21. And, can't zip it on warmer days. Can't even wear it on 40 plus days unless the wind is twenty miles an hour. Sure there are better jackets, but there are a lot worse.
I have to stand up for Columbia. They have the absolute best customer service and warranty of anybody! I returned a 6+ year old rain coat Large and recieved a brand new Parka XXL! They did me right!
I don't ever wear it unluss it is pouring down rain....
layer up and wear one of the Drake wader shirts!

I have an old Cabelas 4 in 1 jacket I've had a few years that is very warm, but bulky. I prefer my Drake quater zip pullover. Like the other folks have suggested, put a few layers on underneath it and you'll be fine. I've hunted all over the South the last three seasons in my Drake pullover in temps down to 15 degrees and haven't been cold yet. The best part is you reduce bulk that could inhibit your ability to quickly mount your gun.
