Rem 1100 12 ga. 2.75" value??

Postby ScottS » Sat Aug 11, 2001 9:57 pm

Ok, I know this is one of those "what is your favorite" type questions but I need some approximate ideas on what this gun is worth. I'm going to try to sell mine in the local paper (B'ham) but have no idea what I might get for it. The gun is probably in 95% condition and has had, maybe, 500 shells shot through in 20 yrs. The bluing is 100%.

It's a non-magnum, as the subject heading indicates, and has a 28" non-ribbed modified barrel. No RemChoke.

My thoughts are that this is probably a great starter gun and probably a pretty good quail/dove gun.

Does $300.00 sound too high for this gun???

Thanks guys,

Scott

Come on guys.....I know some of you have opinions out there on what this gun may be worth.

I know that without actually seeing the gun it's hard to say what it's worth, but presuming it's pretty much in fairly new condition what are your thoughts? Tell me I'm an idiot if you want to, but I need some across the board advice here.

MSU/DD..If the gun is pre-1979 then it likely isn't "steel shot recommended" as the barrel is probably one of the (class action lawsuit) soft(er) steel barrels..this is what the factory told me in 1988 when I called them about my 1973 vintage model 1100 after relocating to Oklahoma where the stuff was required on a widespread basis.

You have a gun which will need the ~$160 "steel shot" barrels to be brought up to code, so to speak.

If the gun is in the condition you stated, would be willing to negotiate..email me (jdnlphillips@worldnet.att.net) and we'll get down to brass tacks.

Dawg,
I have a Rem 1100 2 3/4" with vent rib. Got it for Christmas when I was 12. I love that gun and wouldn't sell it for anything, even though I don't use it much anymore. The gun you have, really isn't worth much. You might get $300.00, but I would doubt it. If it's as good as you say, you might get $250.00. At that amount, you might as well let it sit in the gun cabinet.

Thanks for the input! This gun was a safety award my dad received from his paper company (he's a forestor) around 1974 or 1975. I hate to sell it but he was offering it up to do with as I pleased (I have no need for the gun really). Neither of us ever really hunted with it or shot it. When it was used it was mostly used for dove hunting. He always shot his 870 and I shot my Ithaca Model 37.

Anyway, I agree that it isn't worth a lot due to the expense of having to convert it if one chooses to shoot waterfowl with it. I just thought it might be a pretty good starter gun for a kid who couldn't afford $450 +/- for a new 1100. The $250 sounds probably close to what I could get here locally.

Again, thanks guys.

Scott
