Give the guy a break guys. I'm sure he loves his child more than the dog but he still loves the dog too. I don't know what the answer is except to keep the dog away from the child but don't be hatin' on the man for asking us what we think he should do. JMO.

can you not build the dog a kennel outdoors and in the mornings and afternoon go spend the time needed with her? I see what your saying about she had already justified the 1st attack and will be easier the 2nd time but There must be a different solution to make this a happy ending for bith of you.

i agree with quackers, i had a dog that attacked me one time, i know im not 15 months old and helpless, but the dog didnt know it was doing something "wrong" dogs dont hurt things unless they feel like they have too.


i would not get rid of the dog. build the dog a nice kennel, and have her stay outside.

A lot of great ideas and suggestions and I agree with what you're saying but it's that one time I forget to put her up,or the one time boy runs out of the house.
As bad as I feel right now I think how I would feel if something happened down the road. I mean how could I live with myself if something happened again, weather it's my son or someone else's.

Good for you, I hope I didn't sound too "cold" to the situation earlier, but in the overall scheme of things, there is no comparison between the life of an animal vs the life of a human. It is a hard thing to have to do, but I respect you for dong what is right. For those who don't have children they just simply couldn't understand where those of us with kids are coming from. Flip side of that...those without children and having a dog as a sole companion wouldn't understand either. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Keep your head up.

If that is the same dog we hunted with in AR.... then I am totally amazed. That dog was extremely well trained, and very mild mannered.

Just some thoughts...
How much interaction have your dog and child had together? She could have seen your child as a stranger, and was just trying to protect your wife from this other 'animal' - especially if the child was crying.

My female lab is MUCH more protective than my male. She is very territorial, and does not like strangers in the area.

I had a lab in high school. When I started dating my wife, the lab pouted and was depressed. She hated the fact that I was sharing some of my time with 'another female'. It was a good 6 months before my lab would have anything to do with my wife, but they both finally came around.

Your dog could be jealous, and not understanding of the new relationship and new role. Especially since you said that the dog could not do without you... she sees your child as something that is pulling you away from her.

I feel for you man... but I dont know if I could put her down.

Yeah same dog. She has always been very high strung. She hates other dogs and has a history of not playing nice with them. She has just never acted this way towards people.
It's real bummer but holding a screaming child with blood running down his face is no walk in the park either.
If any humor can be taken from this let me tell you how it went down. I had just come inside and was going to take a late morning shower(it's Sat) so I strip down and step half way into the shower. I think I hear my wife scream and wait and realize she is not playing and something is wrong. So I turn around walk towards the bathroom door, still naked of course and she bursts in crying and screaming and hands me the boy bleeding from the face.
So here I am half wet, covered in blood , naked, holding a screaming bleeding baby and all I think of is this has gotten an Episode of COPS written all over it. I'm thinking if a cop walked in the door right now I'm going to jail no questions asked!!!

there are places for the other 2% of those dogs.....like i said before, my neighbors have 2 rescued dogs, and the wife works for a vet in madison....have no kids and a big fenced in back yard.....dog door for the dogs to come and go as they please....i think you should reconsider....please, i have a home for this dog....dont put her down...

this guy is amazing.. he gets inside the dogs head and can really work wonders..

i'm not bullchittin here, this guy ,Ceaser is his name.. litttle latino guy that has his own t.v. show.. channel 273 for folks with direct t.v. i think it comes on like friday nights..

i've watched work with all kinds of dawgs.. get on the web and get his number.. maybe we will see ya on t.v.

You know that the lady that had a face transplant in France? She had the transplant because she was attacked by her Lab. The story sounded real fishy to me when I read it, but hearing this makes me think twice about my Lab...

We have 4 dogs to big ones (Lab and Mutt) and two little ones (Dashhund and a Mutt) I was more worried about the Daschund and the big Mutt instead of the Lab, but I guess I should reconsider... We had talked about giving the bigger dogs away lately, but have just resorted to keeping them seperated from the boy.

I guess it goes to show you never can tell what can happen...It is hard to imagine how you would feel if something happen to your child and you didn't do everything you could to stop it..

i have a lab and a 1yr old girl. if my dog did that to her my post would read, i just killed my dog because it bit my little girl. end of story!
