Last of the MS Satellite Mallards Caught Saturday

Postby Wingman » Mon Mar 13, 2006 10:27 pm

Word from the trappers is they caught the last of the mallards Saturday just south of the Scatters. I'm not sure what all they banded, but they needed 5 or 6 ducks to finish. I was told that one mallard drake that was netted was already banded. With this summertime weather and gale force south winds, it's a miracle enough ducks hung around this late.

Just thought you fellas would be interested to know.

See them here:

Should be 80 mallards on there when they all start transmitting.

Wingman, you are correct we have 30 Mississippi satellite mallards headed toward the pot holes. We put transmitters on 4 hens and a drake Saturday morning.

It's going to be fun watching them.

Good work, fellas!

I'd be interested to know the banding data on the drake, when that info becomes available......purely out of curiosity.

Me too, Randy. I feel certain that the data was recorded, but I wasn't there so I really don't know.

Duckwarden, Was the duck (MS20) tagged in the eastern side of the state or has she moved there since tagging. She is now sitting in the Noxubee refuge it looks like. She is not listed on the track flight path tools.

I am just wondering becuase I live very near there and if she was tagged in the area I would be very interested in seeing where she goes and what route she takes.

Pretty cool the one mallard that is in Illinois just north of the Iowa border is right where my inlaws place is. I'll have to call my father in law and tell him it's time to go shoot out of season!!

MS-1, MS-2, and MS-20 were all caught on Noxubee Wildlife Refuge. MS-1 & 2 released on 01-20-06. MS- 20 released on 02-15-06. Arkansas is working on getting all our ducks on the flight path tool.

Did they ever put trackers on any of the ducks caught at Mahannah?

I don't think all of the MS ducks are showing up yet.

There were a bunch in the Mahannah area a month or so ago.

Yes, there were some ducks done on Mahannah.

Wingman, they are in the process of changing their web site to include more MDWFP stuff (logo, MS options). When they get this done we should see more Mississippi ducks.
