FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Super Retriever Series Crown Championship to Be Held in Hot Springs from May 26 to May 28

HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Ark., May 22, 2006 — This spring, Ducks Unlimited’s Super Fly and Super Vertical contests will be among the main attractions at the most spectacular sporting dog competition in the country. The Super Retriever Series Crown Championship, which includes the Retriever Trials in addition to the Super Fly and Super Vertical, is slated to return to Hot Springs this weekend. From Friday, May 26 through Sunday, May 28, the event will be held at the infield of Oaklawn Park. Admission is free, and the competition is open to the public all three days.

“The Crown Championship was spectacular when we held it in Hot Springs last year,” said Steve Arrison, executive director of the Hot Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This year’s competition will be even greater because we will have additional competition in vertical jumping and also duck and goose calling as part of the Retriever Trials. The Oaklawn infield is a great place to bring the family and watch these super canine athletes competing at a world-class level in retriever trials, horizontal leaping and, new this year, the Super Vertical jumping competition,” said Arrison.

Events will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26 with the pre-qualifying rounds of the DU Super Vertical competition. The world record for this event is a vertical leap of an astounding 7 feet, 4 inches in height.

On Saturday, May 27, the infield will open to the public at 8 a.m., and competition for the Retriever Trial championship will begin at 8:30. At 10 a.m., the semifinals of the DU Super Vertical competition will take place. At 1 p.m., the Retriever Trials field will be trimmed to 12 dogs, and the DU Super Vertical finals will follow at 2:30 p.m.

The Oaklawn infield will open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 28, and the Retriever Trials Top 8 Series, which features world champion duck and goose callers, will begin at 8 a.m. The DU Super Fly horizontal jumping competition, one of the most spectacular sporting dog events anywhere, will start at 11 a.m.

The Retriever Trials semifinals are set to begin at 1 p.m., and the DU Super Fly jumping semifinals will start at 2 p.m., followed by the championship round at 4 p.m. The event will conclude immediately afterward with the awards ceremony.

Free parking for the event is available in the northern parking lot near Oaklawn, on the part of Central Avenue closest to downtown.

With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation organization. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands ¬− nature’s most productive ecosystem − and continues to lose more than 80,000 wetland acres each year.
