40 cal v. 357 sig?

What is the practical difference between .357 sig and the .40 cal pistol rounds (other than the price).

Alright GC got some info. It looks like at least from Federals products that you are going to have a very limited selection of choices with the Sig. They only load a 125 grain bullet which has better ballistics than a 135 grain .40 but the .40 has a wider selection and the other choices that are out there seems to beat the Sig hands down. I personally have a .40 and like the round. If it was me I would get another .40. But this is just my opinion I am positive you will get more.

Looks like it is just a necked down .40 cal with a 9mm bullet to approximate the ballistics of the .357 magnum in a semi-automatic pistol.

Carried a P-226 (9mm), P-220 (.45), Glock 17. I've had the Sig .40 for about 8 years now and am very pleased with the performance of the gun and the round. I think the .357 sig rounds can be hard to find.

The .357 Sig shells can be very hard to find. However, I've bought Winchester target ammo in .357 sig for about 16.00 a box. I bought a .40 barrel for my Sig P229 because the .40 ammo is easier to find and cheaper to shoot.

Now that I think about it I think I remember talk about those rounds hanging up alot because they are tapered but I can' say for sure.

have a Sig p229 .40. I have never had any problems at all. Had a Glock .40 before that. Great round. I alos think the .357 sig is a good round, but more expensive, harder to find, and there is a very limited selection.

i am a former police officer, narcotics agent and SRT member there is not enough difference to notice we tested them all. the advantage with the 40 is that it is more popular and easier to get affordable ammo. now dont get me wrong the 357 sig is a bad boy but it will likely fade away much like the 10mm did years ago. i promise if you hit someone with a 40 they wont be able to tell the difference it is a man stopper and is the perfect compromise between a 9mm and 45 just my .02

I had a Sig P229 in .357 sig and loved that little gun. Hot round for the size better ballistics than a 9mm, But damn they EXPENSIVE to shoot. So I sold that guy (just cause I needed some cash at the time, I really never plan to sell any guns I may aquire) and a year or so later I picked up a Sig P220 (45) The strange/neat thing about the Sig pistols is that the .40's and .357sig's share the same frames and magazines, it only requires a change in barrels to go from one round to the other.

that's exactly what it is.... both will serve you fine, I like my 45 but if I was gonna pick up a "high capacity" handgun I would probably get a 40.

I have 3 .40 caliber glocks. I love the .40 caliber. I dont know much about the .357 sig except they are about as expensive as a 10mm and they are fast.My glock 20 will shoot .40 and .357sig with a change of barrels using factory magazines and of course it is stock a 10mm. I bought the .40 conversion barrel for my 10mm to cut ammo costs a little and it has already paid for itself.
