sattelite tracking mallard

Where did they all go? I have been watching them everyday for some time and it went from about 30 ducks to 6 or 7. surely they did not all get shot?

I was checking the site out the other day and noticed the same thing. When teh season was overwith in Feb there must have been 45 ducks on the web site now there are only a handful. I am less and less impressed with the whole set up as time goes on.

I talked to someone that said when the ducks ar migrating they will not show up for three of four days after they get setteled. but if you look the only ducks that are showing up are mississippi ducks..

There are several factors that have happened over the last couple of months. First, some of the batteries may be dying. Second, we lost a lot of hens during the nesting period. I don't think the hunting season has hurt us. We haven't had any reports from hunters taking the birds. Even if the hunters don't report them they would still be transmitting. I ask the lady at Arkansas Game & Fish to remove the ducks that we haven't heard from lately. If we start hearing from them again they will be added back.

We are getting ready to deploy some more transmitters on ducks again this year. We will be using a solar powered transmitter this year. These transmitters are suppose to last 3 to 5 years. They still have to make it through the nesting period though.

Sounds like we need some foothold traps and some trappers in the PPR.

Oh wait, Delta Waterfowl has been saying that all along.

What you are seeing is the effect predation on the nesting grounds really means to duck numbers! I never did like skunks and other critters!
