I agree pntail. I'm 18 years old and can't afford a high price lease. I've only been able to hunt the backwaters of the big black and a buddy's place just west of Flora. I scout just as hard as I hunt and rarely even kill a greenhead. It's hard but I stay after them. One day they have to make a mistake I'm thinkin  I'll never give up on them and hopefully one day luck will swing my way. 8)

Ted, when I was close to your age, I hunted ducks in south miss for years and always was after that elusive greenhead. My dad did not duck hunt, so hunting in the delta was not an option until I was old enough to pay for a lease myself. But I think I enjoyed hunting for that ol greenhead and killing my first few on the res in jackson more than killing a limit of greenheads in the delta. Its kind of like women...sometimes its more fun to chase than actually catch one. In the long run, I appreciate killing mallards more now, because I remember a time when every duck that passed over me I would be thinking....is that a greenhead? knowing that it probably wasnt.

yesterday west of Cleveland..... Pretty neat...saw them up close (in the decoys) then they lit in the same field. Big birds.

Have also seen some Cranes this year. Pretty cool, as well.

Yeah, Ted and I hunt west of Flora on the Big Black, we saw 200 mallards and about 100 woodrows one afternoon last week and hunted all day the next day and killed a couple and saw maybe 30 to 40, but if I was you I would defintely keep that lease, it is in a prime spot. The ducks just arent here.

I grew up a deer and turkey hunter. This year, I have only deer hunted 6-10 times (all with a bow). Now I can't wait to get my waders wet. There's just something about hanging out in the willows or the blind with a few of your buddies and hoping to be able to work a few greenheads. It's not all about the killing, it's about the friendships you will always remember. Don't get me wrong, I love to get back to Alabama and send every picture to my "other" friends. Nothing wrong with a little bragging.

You feel the same way I do, duckduckgoose. Seems most duck hunters are deer hunter converts. When you deer hunt you can't move, talk, laugh, fart, pee, smoke etc., you usually hunt by yourself all so on a good day you get to shoot your gun once and then take 1-2 hours to clean the beast. Duck hunting is a group social event where you can make noise, pee, smoke, fart or whatever and on a good day you melt your barrel, then in 20 min. breast out 3 limits of birds and pour yourself a cocktail in time to watch the Saints play at 12:00!! :D :D

Tedl10-
you say your 18. Well, your still pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to duck hunting. But I'd bet my Lakesport that once you get on a couple of GOOD mallard limits with some good friends you'll hang up that deer rifle or bow.
